A client interviewed a candidate for a position X.  Client offered job and candidate accepted.  Candidate accepted a counter-offer and remains with his employer.  To no one's surprise, candidate knew he made a mistake and wanted to revisit the client's job X.  The client offers job X again but then a new negotiation kills that deal.

More than 14 months have passed and candidate once again wants to work for same client but in position Y.  Candidate initiates conversation with client and a meeting has been arranged.   I have come to find out the conversations have been ongoing during the 14 months, albeit sporadically.

Question:  does the recruiter still have an interest in this potential placement?  If not how long are typical time frames on recruiter involvement in the process? (6 month? a year? unlimited?)

Any tips on how to remain "involved" in this placement?  Thoughts?

It should be in your contract how long that 'relationship' lasts.  Generally, it's 12 months.  I'm not sure what you could have done differently, except stay in touch with both parties, and let them know you are still involved!  From a legal standpoint, however, I would imagine it would extend as long as the contract says, and if you have copies of the communications regarding the ongoing discussions.  If not, I think it would extend as long as the contract says.  Hope this helps!
