International Recruiters - Need assistance on a Global search & discussion on your techniques.

I've currently started working on a search for a Quality Manager for a Medical Device manufacturer in Switzerland (relocation provided, must be fluent in French/English). First and foremost - if you or a candidate of yours is interested email/call me at emayer@rsijobs.com or 513-721-3030 x308! - Elsa Mayer

Secondly, I work on a global network that is fantastic, National Personnel Associates. I don't have much representation in Switzerland particularly so I find myself reaching out to new sourcing techniques and areas. Any ideas all? I've worked on LinkedIN, AutoSearch (outstanding webcrawler tool), etc.

For those of you who work globally - how do you tackle a search in the most efficient way? (start with your nation's candidates & see if they will relo, start with the country, etc).

Thanks!

Start with the phone straight into the offices of the competitors in the country where the job is.
I couldn't agree more. That is always top of the list. Any other tools recruiters use?

Hi Elsa,

To cover my European clients I use Xing.com ( finding specialized talent). Sign up - If you get ten new people to sign up you get the full service for free 1 month. I got 6 hires from that site (1 month period)

Also use Facebook - I sourced excellent candidates in Germany, England, France, Sweden and Spain.

Exactly what I was looking for. I am going to check it out ASAP. Thanks for the lead and if you know of any other unique sourcing tools like that I would love to know about them. I'm doing a small presentation at a conference in March on unique sourcing techniques so I love to hear what other people use. Thanks!
This is a very timely discussion for a project I am working on at NACE (http://www.naceweb.org) a not-for-profit professional association that serves US college/university career centers and employers recruiting college educated talent.

The NACE Global Initiatives Committee is currently working on launching an initiative for international students educated in the US. International students are currently increasingly challenged with finding employment opportunities to stay in the US with the current visa restrictions. We have developed this effort to link companies with open global positions to those US educated international students that could be potential candidates for the openings in their home countries.

Last year we had success in our pilot initiative in the winter/spring of 2008, where a total of 62 employers posted more than 400 jobs to the NISVCF with 16,000 international US educated candidates registered for the program (China, Latin America, India, Europe, Australia, etc.)

This may be a good source for finding qualified candidates for your open global positions. (It is very inexpensive to participate, $150 USD for unlimited number of postings for 9 months – to cover operational costs. It is free to the international students.)

The more companies that participate the better breadth of opportunities will be available for the international students that are struggling with this issue.

You can see information about the initiative at http://www.naceweb.org/public/NISVCF/source_talent.htm.

Thanks in advance for any creative ideas you may have on getting the word out to other possible employer participants.
Jennifer-
It sounds like a great organization. I'm always saddened by talking to some really fantastic new grads, even up to PhD levels and not having companies willing to sponsor a visa or even do a transfer. Most of my international jobs are most likely Senior level, but this will be a great resource for me to share with all the candidates that come to us for help.
