How have other agency recruiters and firms managed this dynamic when using social media? Would much appreciate your insight!

A recap of the day is in order. A drive in to Mountain View to the Google Campus where individuals gathered to share a shuttle ride to building 43, where ERE.net had assembled social media leaders to share information and direct interested individuals as to the driving reasons why Twitter does or doesn't work as a recruiting tool. Additionally, a tour of the campus was in order, though security guards lined each path and kept all attendees on the straight and narrow google path, by the way, the path was cobbled.
First, Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn shared the delights of LinkedIn Recruiter and what makes it special. The word on the street, "It's totally worth the price." Given the demonstration we received, I would concur. Next, came the opportunity to find the session of your choosing. The quote of the day, "People don't lie in public as often (as they do in private.)" Which is why you can trust LinkedIn profiles...

Laurie Ruettimann (@lruettimann) shared highlights of why "going your own way" works and why PunkRock HR is not only a statement but a way of life. Laurie touched on some different social networks available and advantages of each. Twitter was a running theme throughout the day.

Lunch was served outdoors where a spitting of ran dampened few spirits and made others wonder, "This is June in California?"

The afternoon was filled with more discussions and extensive conversations of what recruiters and HR departments are doing to embrace social media and how it can best serve the industry. Tweets abounded from sessions touched on the virtues of Twitter, LinkedIn, Community, and so much more. Check Twitter #socialrecruiting to get the gist of the incredible conversations taking place.

Believe it or not, business cards were still exchanged, not quite as outdated as you might think, and "hope" filled the room.
Hi everyone,

I am new to the independent recruiter scene and I have been using LinkedIn to locate top candidates, however sourcing contact info proves to be slow and a bit cumbersome at times. I am willing to shell out real money for a tool/site/resource that can provide just the email address of folks I source on LinkedIn.

Anyone have a favorite tool/website they use to go from name/company to email address?

I've looked at Zoominfo, but they miss the mark a bit on this.

Notice the Network Information!!! Now you don't have to put how many connections you have in your profile name field for people to see how well connected you are. SWEET!

It also has a "In common" field which doesn't show up on my profile for obvious reasons but it looks like this:

In Common: 2183 shared connections 2 shared groups

And also notice the Groups information is listed which is also nice. I like this cause when I'm trolling for new members to invite to my CPD Group on Linkedin I'd like to see right away if we have similiar groups. Using the whole birds of a feather theory it's nice to have that info readily at hand.

You also have some other sorting options
Sort by:
Relationship
Relevance
Relationship + Recommendations
And you can customize what information you want to see.
There's a ton more but this is an overview.
I'm not sure how everyone feels about MBA recruiting, but if you are in that space there is a new website called MBAinteract (http://www.mbainteract.com). Its free for corporate recruiters and MBA students/alumni from some top schools. The best feature seems to be the matching. The site seems like a combination of Linkedin and eHarmony......Some eHarmony and Facebook people seem to be involved..... and there is an article on Cheesehead that mentions they are going to expand out to the larger recruiting market. What has changed?
LinkedIn have decided to drop a small but very important aspect of their search tool and to change it towards a new functionality. Once you try it you will no longer be able to search people and rank them towards 'amounts of contacts'. That little but most important item has led LinkedIn towards a fully status oriented network in which only numbers counted these last few years. It was probably necessary to reach a certain amount of people in the network, making it possible to switch to more quality related aspects. They finally have seen the light!

No longer the quantity oriented status-addicts on top, instead the quality of your connection will count. Probably it will still count the amount of 'recommendations' so we can expect a new 'race' there with people giving each other fake recommendations, but we can have some faith that LinkedIn will change that too now.

Sorry, but I am getting a bit emotional over this....now can we have some decent Profiling on LI as well with normal person to person direct interaction tools such as instant messaging and voice / video interactions? The ON would welcome them, naturally we have t had those on www.opennetworkers.info for quite some time.

Is this a sign of the 'Power of Now' (Tolle). Now is the moment (red. speech Obama, this summer Berlin).

Why is this so important
LinkedIn has something no other online network has: a 'connections export' feature. So you can go to your contact list and export all of them to another network or just your outlook address book. This small little feature has given birth to the majority of new social networks online today. It has triggered a wave of 'connection oriented online behavior' and spamming that wasn't very helpfull in crreating more quality oriented online interactions. Status and quantities were more important.
Should LinkedIn change it's strategy towards the quality of connections, you can bet that this export function will have had it's last days as well and that would change the online networking scenery totally, towards having more chances for self-development instead of status oriented profiling...

So I return from vacation only to find 300 invitations in my inbox on Linkedin. Normally, I would be happy to accept all these invites since I am an Open Networker.
Below is the reply I received:
> Thank you for contacting LinkedIn Customer Support. You are no longer capable of mass accepting invites. You will need to go in and accept them one by one.
> We apologize for any inconvenience.
> Have a great day Jeff!
> Regards,

I have not received a reply as to why I am unable to mass accept but I think it's pretty save to assume that Linkedin is attempting to stop Open Networkers by making it massively inconvenient. (FYI I have over 9400 first level connections)

By my count that's at least 4 or 5 attempts at shutting down Open Networkers.

This wil obviously dramatically change how Open Networkers work on Linkedin. Be prepared to Accept each and every invite individually if you are "tagged" as an Open Networker by Linkedin.

Jeff Weidner
Typically I would sign my post with my Linkedin email address but then I'd have to go in and Accept all the damn invites I'd get from people reading this post.
Ehh I'll put it in anyway just out of spite but don't expect me to Accept for several days, possibly weeks, maybe a month. Worst case 2 months.
