What would happen if social networks were adopted by the business community?

For a number of years LinkedIn and similar sites have dominated the business community. Individuals are happy to post their career background on such sites and recruiters use every means at their disposal to interact with them. It would appear that both the individual and the web site owners try to restrict free communication, packaging their proposition around the "need to know" concept. Environments such as The Fordyce Letter Network, RecruitingBlogs.com and new players such as "Want to be a Big Biller?" and Executive Careers Network are challenging this closed approach by providing a more transparent social networking community. Will this openness lead to a dramatic negative effect to the recruiter and their ability to provide a value service to their clients?
