Here's a way to create a large list of potential candidates from LinkedIn in minutes. It requires an additional tool from eGrabber.
From Google, run a search:
-intitle:directory -intitle:answers -intitle:profiles site:linkedin.com

(as an example,
"J2EE engineer OR developer san Francisco -intitle:directory -intitle:answers -intitle:profiles site:linkedin.com").

You will get a list of profiles as the result. Use eGrabber's Resumegrabber along with the "Social Network to Excel" add-on. You will get an Excel table with the following fields, even if these people are not in your network:

* Location, title, company, industry

If you do have a large network and the results are in your network, you will see much more in the Excel file, 20+ fields from the profiles conveniently parsed into your spreadsheet.

and try the Excel extension along with it.
