I remember communicating with other recruiters in the past through the email blasts like recnet. Recruitingblogs is much better, because it's immediate. There were ups and downs on there, just like here in volume of members and replies. There are people that add value, those that are idiots and those that just stand in the background. I have certainly "met" a lot of people through these sites and then worked on deals with them or just went to them for advice or a little brainstorming. This is a great place to start a business relationship, post a question, get advice, read reviews, training, etc. I also want to hear what other people are hearing from candidates and clients, what new tricks have people tried for marketing that works, evaluation of ATS/CRM systems etc. I think it depends on your business as to what topics hold an interest.
Less people in our business? Probably, I have been through a downturn before and you do lose some people; which is usually a great thing for us! Of course, like the others here I have to focus on my day job and what pays the bills. I am brand new to the site (thanks Steve!) - but as a member of Gen Y/Gen X (I'm right on the border!) - I am constantly bombarded by new social networks and e-learning opportunities that are all competing with each other for the little extra time I have at work. Where I spend my time is constantly changing - which makes consistent visits to certain sites more difficult.
I think with the ever-changing world of the web, we all are constantly looking for something better, and will never settle for the status quo in terms of recruiting and networking. I guess where I am going with this is it means that you will have to keep this site evolving to keep us interested - so far I've been impressed. Pam-
Thanks for the offer. It's really this simple...

What do you do and how can we work together?

For whatever reason - toilet training, diet, turning-50-in-two-weeks, always-wished-for-children, male-pattern baldness, I enjoy helping others.

Just ask...
[Pam, expect a call tomorrow]
This would be a great topic for you to expand into an article...ways that spending time on RBG can make you money..... I'd love to hear more specifics/success stories, about how you are benefiting. I enjoy this site, but for me it's really been purely water cooler time, and I have to be mindful of that as there's only so much time in the day!
I have felt the same way as Dan in the last 1-2 months or so. There are fewer posts that are of interest to me as a hands-on recruiter and sourcer than it used to be before. I am not sure why ... but I am sure JD has the talent and the skill to shake it up and facilitate the creation of new, interesting, relevant content.

Funny I just spoke to JD about this very question before I saw your post today.

I think it is more of an overall industry issue. I assume so many are laid off and have their accounts to social networks tied to work emails that they get cut off and in the interim of the shock of a pink slip loose touch rather than using the bounty of resources that social networks like RBC have.
What to do? Remind everyone now is THEE time when the resources such sites offers is most relevant, not less so, more so.

I have been telling people for the past year this was coming and to start adding personal emails to their accounts ... do people listen? Well ... now we can remind them ... USE YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL ACCOUNTS OR ADD THEM - from linkedin to Fcaebook to Twitter to RBC
