Hi, I'm still working on a new solution for chat - ning is releasing a new set of apps this coming week so we'll see if it gets back to its old self! I've placed chat in its old position - top and center - there's now a "ping" sound you can turn on to let you know when someone's chatting - look for the horn symbol on the bottom of the chat page and click on it to turn it "on".
