OT: Midnight in Paris

Saw it last night. Always a fan of Mr. Allen and this one did not disappoint. Not as good as I expected based on reviews and this being his top grossing film, but still really enjoyed. What a great period to travel back to.

What period would you like to revisit? What city? and if you don't care about those questions- what is your favorite Woody film?

Thanks for sharing and posing such questions. They made me reminisce.

Woody Allen is one of the best as a: Director, Actor, Writer & Comedian.

Don’t know if I’ll see Midnight in Paris, anytime soon, but eventually. Radio Days (Best of the Best); Match Point; The Curse of the Jade Scorpion; Small Time Crooks; Sweet and Lowdown; Manhattan—are works of Woody Allen that I can see over and over and look forward to the next viewing of each. With some serious subject matter--they are mostly so funny, satirical, insightful, and even instructive.

A sidebar on the subject of Woody Allen, years ago, standing in line with my wife to see Zelig, in Hollywood, some film people approached us and asked if we’d like to see a “Private screening of a movie yet to be released.” And that our comments would be appreciated. Hey, they were carrying clipboards and tickets…and looked legit. So we accepted the invitation …saw the move; loved the movie; made our comments. The movie was later released as: Terms of Endearment. It won five Academy Awards including Best Picture of 1983. My comment: “Don’t change a damn thing” was embraced somewhat, yet I’ve seen no royalties to date.

If there was a time machine that could transport me to revisit a particular time period as a spectator or participant—it would be to most any of the Olympic Games of the past. Starting with the first Olympic Games introduced by Pericles during the Golden Age of Greece--in Olympia, Greece. It started the tradition of having the Games every four years in cities throughout the world, e.g., the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games where Jesse Owens won four Gold Medals and Adolph Hitler left in disgust. I did attend the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. It was a magnificent experience and a period I would love to revisit because the Olympic Games exemplify and embrace the spirit of friendly competition among world class competitors. With the exception of the tragedies of the Munich Olympics in 1972 they entertain, inspire and establish a universal appeal for international relations through sports. It is a period of time so unique that wars were and are suspended during the Olympic Games.
