Good morning,

My name is Maria Kench and I am sourcing specialist. I am currently recruiting for a scientist in our Hawaii location and wanted to reach out to fellow recruiters to see if you had suggestions for sites you have found beneficial when recruiting for Scientists? I am recruiting for a scientist with a PhD and extensive work experience in plant breeding, genetics or related field in a research and development environment

Any feedback would be great appreciated!!

Thanks in advance,
Maria

Hi Maria,

Post on pgds.org. It's free and is really good for finding PhD's.

I know a guy in Hawaii that is very good with all of that stuff. Breeding plants, working on genetics...

He's no PhD though and I cannot vouge for how reliable he would be..........j/k

I used to use BioSpace or HireHealth in the past when searching for PK/PD scientists. I think they are now 1 though. But to be honest, I think the majority of scientists that we have placed were found on Monster.

Looks like you have an attractive package to offer the right candidate as I assume that you are willing to relocate from the mainland. Shouldn't be too hard of a sale once you find the right candidate.

Another thing, Google searches work great for Scientists as they all have publications available on the net. Shoot me an email, and I would be happy to pound out a couple of search strings for you to use.

You could also try some of the univeristies that offer PhDs in genetics and see who is working on their final dissertation or possibly identify people who wrote their dissertations in previous years and had them published.
Often times the professor of those courses will give referrals as well of potential candidates that were students etc...

You can also check the patent database and see if anybody has filed for patents in the specifc field of study.

White paper or other articles could also be useful and find out who the author is.

Scientists also have scientific meetings/conferences throughout the world and you could get speaker or attendees lists.

You can also identify other companies in Hawaii that might have those types of scientists and penetrate into them via the phone doing networking or phone sourcing techniques.

There are also a ton of journals that revolve around plant breeding, plant genetics etc http://www.wiley.com/bw/journal.asp?ref=0179-9541&site=1 is just one of them this site also lists tons of papers etc

Check with the Hawaii BBB to see if there any any scheduled conferences in Plant breeding or genetics planned for 2009

If relocation is offered well then that opens up a whole bunch more options...
Google searches using keep words and ~resume might get you a few candidates.

But I would start local first then expand to the most obvious places like CA, OR, WA or hit some of the major PhD genetics programs offered by Top Universites...

Longer term if you plan on hiring a lot these types of candidates in the future you may also want to join or even create some groups on Linkedin, Facebook, Ning and the 50 other social networks and create content to attract these types of people to build a following.
