I'm in England. I coach candidates through the interview process by emphasizing effectiveness (the ability to separate themselves form all other candidates for a given job).

Hello all and regards from South America!

Carl, it is also common here, in these latitudes, some niche oriented job boards request tax IDs just to make sure you are posting real offers. I usually ask my client to provide that info if they are established in that specific county, if not I call the job board and explain the situation, most of the time they manage to find a way to check the info allowing to post ;)

Have a great week!

Great group, it exactly fits our market of sourcing specialist candidates for recruiters around the globe. We started out sourcing chartered accountants from Australia for recruiters in London, then expanded into other specialist sectors such as engineering, teaching, IT etc. Now we are looking for recruiters that have a need in all global locations so i am really looking forward to the blogs and debate in this group.

I Have a client doing recruiting in Australia for the first time. Any advice on why the Seek.com job board needed an ABN (Australian business / tax ID) number before allowing their jobs to be posted live? I never heard of this compliance requirement before. Just want to be sure I advise my clients appropriately about recruiting practices and compliance down under. Thanks in advance

Just seen this and as we spend much of our efforts finding locals for the tech companies in europe and asia-pacific region it would be good to see inputs from other and also contribute.

To add to Franks piece on low tax - I am also finding currency a big issue. In NZ and Australia where we have just set up their currencies have appreciated considerably against US and European ones making it harder to attract them to positions in these locations as salaries "look" effectively lower. The other way round is also a problem as bringing assets in to NZ and Aus buys you much less in local currency terms. IT is thus making moves in and out more of an issue at this time.

Whilst sourcing locals in may jobs will make most sense in specialist areas the experience and expertise gained overseas can be very valuable and often adds a new dimension to the candidate from the experience of a work in a new country as well as to the employer from new perspectives. It would be in my opinion be a shame if the current situation saw the world getting smaller and more local as regards the job market.
