As you know, Bill 139 is currently being reviewed in the House of Commons. It was introduced into legislature as a means to ensure that Ontario’s employment legislation recognizes the needs of temporary employees and staffing firms that employ them in a fair and balanced way. In its current state the Bill has many pros benefiting the industry and workers alike but the Bill also has some areas of concern. The Staffing Edge prides itself in being on the leading edge of changes to our industry. We have put together a website for staffing industry owners, temporary workers as well as your clients to get involved to initiate the required changes to Bill 139. Please visit www.actionon139.com and sign our online petition. We ask that you pass this along to any other staffing industry owners, clients who are concerned with the impact it may have as well as any temporary employees who are interested in having their voice heard.

We have already received over 400 signed petitions from businesses and over 200 from temporary employees. We have forwarded these by courier to the Minister of Labour, the Premier as well as the 9 members of the standing committee and will continue to do so as petitions are signed.

On April 1st The Standing Committee on Legislative Assembly met to discuss these many concerns. There were many speakers representing the staffing industry as well as the temporary workers and clients who benefit from this service. This was one of the first of many committee meetings in regards to Bill 139 and its impact on our industry and the workers who utilize our services. We hope to keep you well informed throughout the process.

Together we can make changes to benefit all parties.

For anyone who deals with Government of Canada contracts, several individuals from Ottawa based IT consulting firms were just charged with bid-rigging. Some interesting articles can be found on the charges at:

Hey group,

I just joined Recruiting Blogs and so far have been enjoying it. I look forward to some of the discussions that may take place in this group.

At this time I would like to ask for your help if you have some free time. I recently started a blog and have been blogging about what recruiters look for in resumes, how candidates should market themselves, and ultimately some of the challenges that exist between recruiters and candidates. If you have some time I would ask you check it out and offer any comments you may have at this time. I'd love to get yuor feedback and comments.

Please check it out at: http://sweens.wordpress.com

Thanks in advance and happy hunting!
