Traditional job descriptions are lacking. They are boring; lazy at best. They are non engaging and have drop off rates higher than the empire state building. 5 years ago I wrote an article that asked, how will you consume content online in 2017? 2017 is coming upon us quickly and there are a few eye opening predictions that you'll find compelling.

learn more about Match Click: video job descriptions and how they are changing the job description below

Answer these questions (In your head)

How many leads visit your careersite?

How many leads click through to view a job description?

How many of those leads that click through to view your job description complete the application?

Now...answer these questions...

How many leads that click through to view your job description do not complete the application (drop off)

Are you shaking you head yet? the average corporate career site maintains a staggering 50-60% drop off rate, which means that for every 100 visitors to you job description 50-60 of those visitors do not complete any application. Place those numbers into perspective in your own example.

* From Forbes

75 % of executives interviewed by Forbes told the survey that they watch work-related videos on business websites at least once a week.

The results breakdown:

50% watch business-related videos on YouTube

65% visit the marketer’s website after viewing a video

What is Match-Click

Match-Click is a video based job description that took the Product of the Year aware at HR Tech this year. They are a video based job description service leveraging real employees to share critical information about the career opportunity, co-workers that you will be working with and company information that may influence the job seeker throughout their job search.

The idea is not new, but they've found a market to innovate and capture the interest of employers looking to increase candidate engagement resulting in applications.

Here is how it works:

Step 1:

The job seeker will search for a job on the job board or click on a link that is marketed to them from the company.

Step 2:

The job seeker visits the proper job of interest

Step 3:

The job seeker is presented with a nicely laid out video job description with clear call to actions to help initiate the application process

Workday

Built From The Cloud Up

Workday has an interesting story and as they say they were "built from the cloud up". You can read the story for yourself but as the story goes (from the workday website) In 2005, software visionaries Dave Duffield and Aneel Bhusri met for brunch at a Truckee diner, a few miles north of Lake Tahoe. They decided to form a startup—one that would sell cloud-based HR and finance software. The two longtime friends had plenty of experience. Dave founded PeopleSoft in 1987 and served as the company's CEO and board chairman.

Aneel held a number of leadership positions at PeopleSoft, including senior vice president of product strategy. On that day in 2005, they resolved to build a company that would revolutionize the enterprise software market. The result is Workday.
Video Interviewing descends on HR Technology Conference #hrtechconftag:recruitingblogs.com,2014-10-08:502551:Topic:18314222014-10-08T22:12:05.674ZRyan Learyhttps://recruitingblogs.com/profile/RyanLeary

Most vendors I've spoken with have come to be hip on the fact that we don't care about their conference spend and how big there... well you know where I'm going....

Video technology is clearly not new but with the strong presence of video interviewing companies I want to bring them all to the community here to review. I have some questions that I need answered. I am sold on the tech and I fully understand the value of the tech. I do not however think the sales guys onsite here understand the buyer.

Here's what I like:

I like video interviewing, in fact I use it daily

I like the offerings from all of the video interviewing platforms on the market

I like the experience provided by the vendors to the candidates throughout the entire process

I really like the return on time and gaps closed when leveraged properly

Here is what I don't understand:

What new innovations are being presented to video interviewing market in this space that are different from last year or even the year before or the year before that? Years ago, when video interviewing was new, the story was fascinating. It was an idea that made sense and a technology that has yet to be proven in recruitment so there was buzz; a lot of buzz. Today the fear of compliance and process has for the most part been eradicated and legal teams that once had heart attacks at the sound of video in recruitment have come around.

My question for video interviewing vendors is what really makes you different from the next guy?

Video interviewing is video interviewing. Is this thought naive? Maybe so, but the marketing hype and sales pitch for every product has created a clouded understanding at best for most buyers.

I still love video interviewing and my favorite players are listed below, but I need to ask the question:

What do you being to the table that is truly different (at the technology level) from your competitors?

With all of that....here are my top 7 players I've found at HR Tech this year:

Take the interview

Take the interview in my opinion is a great tool and the team behind it is pretty awesome as well. I've met with them on multiple occasions and consistently hear the platform continually outperforming expectations. (from the TTI website) We believe that the interviewing process can be a lot better in most organizations and that software can be both easy-to-use and powerful. Our unique platform enables your recruiting team to engage candidates and hiring managers in ways not possible before. Our philosophy is simple: Better technology enables greater efficiency and better communication.

Better communication results in better interviews. Better interviews produce better hires.

InterviewStream

InterviewStream helps companies generate great candidate experiences and remarkable returns through Web-based video screening, interviewing and preparation. InterviewStream pioneered the category in 2003, and today more than 5 million users have access to products to transform the most-demanding hiring environments and perfect the practice of video interviewing.

InterviewStream is part of a growing suite of video apps that go beyond hiring and include employee communications: RolePlayPRO for training and best practices, and ivMessage for one-way messaging.

HireVue

Over the last couple of year HireVue has taken big strides to position themselves as the digital leader in this category. They've truly got an awesome product and with their new release of Insights their offering just got better. HireVue was recognized this year at HR tech 2014 with "The Top HR Product of The Year" award.

The system is easy to use, it's fast and the candidate experience is a real focal point for them. I'd recommend giving them a try or at least run through their onsite demo

Greenjob Interview

I've never personally used GreenJob Interview but I've seen the demo and have spoken to plenty of people that have used the tool. Based on those opinions the tool is good and the new UI creates a much better user experience.

From their website:

We provide cloud-based virtual interviewing solutions that help employers dramatically reduce the time and costs associated with scheduling and conducting interviews. Our robust and easy-to-use live, recorded and mobile solutions also enable organizations to reach a global talent pool, strengthen their employment brand and reduce their environmental impact. More than 300 of the world’s leading organizations (including Walmart, PepsiCo, UCLA and Mayo Clinic) have chosen us, and we continue to gain recognition for developing technology that literally transforms the recruitment process for employers and job seekers alike.

Rivs

I've used and I like this platform. It's as strong as any other video interviewing platform on the market and deserves you eyes and time for a full review if you are considering video interviewing as a solution to your company.

From the Rivs website:

Our clients use our services to improve their quality of hire and reduce hiring costs by leveraging digital interviews to get better candidate information sooner and with less effort. Digital interviews make it possible to evaluate skills and attitudes that usually don't appear on a resume, reducing the time spent interviewing by 60% while allowing companies to hire the best people before they are off the market

Sparkhire

Sparkhire, similar to a couple of other platforms enters the market at a lower price point while still delivering the goods.

Recruiters and hiring managers can review candidates anytime, anywhere and make smarter decisions about who makes the cut for the next round.

Eliminate phone interviews

Save time and money

Improve hiring collaboration

VoiceAdvantage

VoiceAdvantage is the only platform on this list that I have not heard of nor used in action but I wanted to include them on this list because they are here at HR Tech and their product looks good. We'll have a demo shortly but until than I'd recommend checking them out and to include them in your due diligence.

Here is their pitch on the website: High-touch video interviews with a high-quality experience. Safely and securely speak with candidates, and record for future playback. You'll wonder how you ever interviewed without it.
HRTech News: Jibe Ready To Storm The Stage – And The Floor – at The 2014 HR Technology Conferencetag:recruitingblogs.com,2014-10-06:502551:Topic:18306372014-10-06T02:08:35.607ZTim Spagnolahttps://recruitingblogs.com/profile/TimSpagnola

Comcast Cable’s Vice President of talent acquisition, Raúl J. Valentín, will join Jibe CEO and Founder Joe Essenfeld on stage in a breakout session to share how the companies have worked together to revolutionize the global media and technology giant’s hiring practice through mobile apply and recruiting analytics. Jibe customers Microsoft and Informatica will also share their stories from the Jibe booth (#2234).

That is not the case for Comcast, a clear early adopter and first mover in the mobile recruiting revolution. Valentín and Essenfeld will share the story of their journey in a breakout session on Wednesday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m. PST.

“Delivering an optimal candidate experience is the end goal for any recruiting organization, and that means ensuring that you meet and exceed the expectations of today’s job seekers, making it easy to engage and apply regardless of the technology being used,” commented Valentín. “Your recruiting practices and how you attract and engage candidates is an overall extension of your company’s brand, so it’s crucial to get it right. We found Jibe to be the perfect partner to help us achieve that goal, and are excited to share our story at this year’s HR Technology Conference.”

In addition to its joint presentation with Comcast, Jibe will be displaying its full suite of cloud-enabled, mobile-first recruiting software solutions.

Jibe Apply – Recognized as the industry benchmark in mobile recruiting, Jibe Apply allows job seekers to submit completed applications from any device — smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop – ensuring employers offer a consistent and optimal candidate experience.

Lastly, Jibe will roll out its latest game-changing solution, Jibe Insights, at this year’s HR Technology Conference. Details will be made public at the Conference. Attendees can visit Booth 2234 to learn more.

“The HR Technology® Conference continues as the world's largest gathering of people that care about HR technology and as a showcase for how leading organizations around the world are solving business problems and driving improved performance with technology,” said Co-Chair Steve Boese. “The Conference provides HR professionals with the opportunity to hear, meet, and learn from dozens of HR and organizational leaders first-hand as well as connect with all the leading HR technology solution providers in one place. HR Tech has simply become a "must-attend" event for HR leaders.”

“If we’re about one thing at Jibe, it’s delivering the ultimate in candidate experience,” said Essenfeld. “To work with companies like Comcast, who understand the importance of delivering that experience to candidates, and to have the opportunity to share our story together with them at a venue as esteemed as the HR Technology Conference is a distinct pleasure and honor. We’re looking forward to the show more than ever this year.”

Here are take away items from what I felt may have been one of the best sessions I was able to attend at this years HR Tech.

Moderated by Gerry Crispin, the panel included:

Chris Hoyt, Global Practice Leader, Pepsico

Maureen Negila, Global Talent and Recruitment, Manulife Financial

Danielle Monaghan, HR Partner Director, Technology Service, Cisco

Kent Kirch, Global Director of Talent Acquisition & Mobility, Deloitte

After sitting in on an hour of debate I was able to walk away with 7 key points that I will certainly bring back with me as I plan for 2014.

Here are the 7 key points that got me thinking:

Take away from Chris Hoyt:

Consider placing advertisement / media buys in front of your current employee population with the goal of driving them back into your clients / employers internal portals.

This will allow you to place very meaningful information directly in the path of your current employee population that may or may not visit that same information if communicated internally. Clearly the messaging won’t disclose the 11 secret ingredients to perfect colonel’s recipe (From KFC) but try to image how this may work in your organization?

I see this potentially serving value to non-employees as well. Should a non employee click through and land on your page you should have a clear call to action on that page to redirect that person into a lead funnel or another content funnel to serve its purpose.

Take away from Kent:

Co-Create Ideas with the various local level stakeholders in the countries that you are integrating the new technology. The panel spoke about the unique needs of countries around the globe. It’s impossible for you to understand local level needs for every country that you will include in your integration.

Some of the challenges mentioned:

Local recruiting ability

Local customs for approaching recruiting best practices

Local infrastructure and the ability to effectively use the technology that you are providing to the team

Willingness to adopt at the change at the rate you are expecting

Take away from Maureen:

When adding additional solutions that require partnerships in other countries it is important to fully understand the local economy and recruiting best practices. Partnerships with an RPO or outside recruiting firm may hinder your goal of global expansion for some markets.

Maureen made mention that an RPO lacks the ability to present strong relationship building. Although I list this as a take away I have to disagree with this statement. I am embedded into an RPO and though I can respect where the statement may come from I am confident that I can present a stronger case to show that leading RPO’s present the ability to recruit better candidates, faster and often in closer alignment to the brand position than the corporate recruiters representing the very same brand.

Through a healthy mix of process, automation and nurturing an RPO with the proper tools will increase the candidate experience. Most successful instances I can point to however include a blended approach where the RPO is working alongside the client recruiter.

Take away from Danielle:

When you add technology you run the risk of adding layers of complexity that ultimately create additional steps in the recruiting process. It is important to maintain a level of consistency between the technology and the recruiting team so that you are not adding additional hand offs in an already convoluted process.

I agree with Danielle’s goal in that keeping the recruiters on the phone and out of reporting is crucial. If you are asking your recruiters to run weekly reports on their production than you can amend your process to be better, fast and stronger.

Secondly I agree wholeheartedly that it is vitally important to customize the experience across countries, regions and sometimes even states. Messaging is important and with out capturing your targets interest you are not going to see success.

And last but not least, a celebrity guest audience member sums up the entire conversation in 1 sentence. The honorable mention from the back of the room:

Integration without adoption is failure.
Last year at HR Tech video interviewing was a hot topic. Most of the video interviewing products however were not so hot. This year, my opinion has changed .

I was able to meet with a few vendors and I have to say that I was impressed with the advancements year over year. Though most of my questions have been answered I know that the community here will not be fully convinced that video interviewing (recorded and live) plays a significant role in the advancement of hiring best practices.

Understanding that our community is rather diverse I do expect varying view points how there are a few key questions everyone will want to ask.

If you are a vendor or user and have real numbers to post, please let us know. We'd like to have a debate on the technology and share the outcome with our community.

Here are a few questions we need answered:

What is a legitimate starting point in dollars to buy into this type of engagement. Taking into account there are various forms of usage including full integrations as well as a point of sale plug and play, what can a firm expect to budget?

Is there a precedent for compliance that can be cited for clarification and legal challenges?

How does the internal talent acquisition team of a company position this solution to the business so that the investment proves to be a value add?

What is an expected period of change management during implementation on a full service video interviewing solution?

Are you considering a video interviewing solution in your organization? Below are a few of the video interviewing platforms to consider. Keep in mind that not all vendors offer the same solution and offer a variety of levels at which they can serve you.

Both apps power companies’ efforts to track and monitor high-quality applicants collected via employee referrals and at college or recruiting events. The apps’ intuitive functionality is a game-changer for human resources teams and recruiters, as it enables them to use social networks to aggregate employee information and boost return on investment in recruiting efforts by reaching a larger pool of top talent.

Employee referral is the best source to find and hire quality talent, and, until now, has been the most underutilized. In large part, this is due to employers having non-intuitive processes thus giving employees little incentive to refer. When employees do refer, the process often involves navigating companies’ intranets to look up jobs and lengthy paper application forms. MoBolt’s Employee Referral solution provides a simple, quick-to-access and intuitive mobile-based referral option that allows employees to quickly access their social networks to notify friends to apply for a job. The candidates referred for the job will get an instant notification and can apply right from a mobile device by using their personal social network profile – all in less than a minute.

The MoBolt SaaS-based Event and Employee Referral and Notification native apps are the first in the human resources space to fully integrate into an organization’s applicant tracking system (ATS) or customer relationship management (CRM) system. Both apps also come with built-in responsive mobile platform experience.

Notable features for recruiters include:

MoBolt Event app: Recruiters can capture candidate information either online or offline, upload it to their ATS or CRM system, rank candidates and send personalized email confirmations. The app drastically reduces the amount of time and effort that goes into capturing candidate data via paper resumes, emails or business cards at college or other recruiting events. The app also allows recruiters to generate a QR code that candidates can use to directly upload their resumes.

MoBolt Employee Referral and Notification app: Recruiters can now match a job opening with employees’ profiles and send group app notifications. For example, if a retail sales job opening is in San Francisco, a recruiter can send the notification message to all employees that have downloaded the app who are in a retail sales category for that location with a personalized message to refer friends for the job or to post on their social network. This puts the power in recruiters’ hands to generate more employee referral leads. In addition, it greatly reduces their manual work because the app tracks the source for each candidate right into the ATS.

“As more jobseekers turn to their mobile devices, companies that are not actively engaging this group could be missing out on high-quality candidates,” said Kshitij Jain, founder and CEO of MoBolt. “We’ve found that if companies can adopt mobile recruiting and even increase the employee referral-generated applications from the current average of 7 to 10 percent, it has potential to power almost 50 percent of companies’ overall hires.”

MoBolt’s Event and Employee Referral and Notification apps will be on display this week at booth 752 at the HR Technology Conference in Las Vegas.

Jobvite, the leading recruitment platform for the social web, today announced Jobvite Video, a built-in video-interviewing product that gives hiring teams a way to quickly and effectively screen candidates. Today's businesses face several hurdles when it comes to hiring, ranging from the fluidity of careers to the increasing number of people involved in the hiring process. Jobvite Video helps companies recruit more efficiently and be more assured of candidates early on in the hiring process, saving time and money.

"Advances in social, mobile, and cloud technologies have changed recruiting tremendously. Recruitment is now marketing, and companies need to market their job opportunities like they do their products to consumers," said Dan Finnigan, president and CEO of Jobvite. "This has spurred a growing demand for video interviewing from both recruiters and hiring managers. Jobvite Video is the first recruiting platform to meet this demand and will significantly aid companies in engaging and screening talent faster and more efficiently."

The global talent pool is shrinking rapidly and candidates come to the application process with more information than ever before, creating a need for companies for one recruiting-focused platform with best-of-breed products.

Jobvite Video enables companies to easily create the kind of candidate experience top candidates now expect, while offering significant time and cost savings compared to piecemeal point solutions. The only video-screening solution built directly into a recruiting platform and job seeker portal, Jobvite Video offers lasting value and unmatched user experience through configurable welcome pages, invitation-specific expirations, and side-by-side evaluations.

From a single login recruiters will be able to invite, interview, screen, schedule, track and hire effortlessly from their desks. These capabilities will not only accelerate candidate screening, but also reduce remote hiring costs and facilitate panel feedback early in the hiring process leading to better candidate matches. The time saved and the feedback enabled will allow recruiters to understand their talent funnels and level of engagement better.

Unlike other video platforms, Jobvite Video is natively built to work seamlessly across the entire hiring process. Jobvite Video offers full security, candidate controls, archiving, and unlimited playback for a safe, secure, and optimized job seeker experience. Invitation-specific expirations ensure a timely response from candidates, while giving candidates the ability to interview at their own schedules from their preferred locations.

"Jobvite Video will enable our recruiters to reach out to more candidates in a more effective manner," said Scott Carlson, Director of Human Resources at Command Transportation. "It not only will provide candidates flexibility in scheduling their interviews, it will also help us make more informed decisions about people beyond what's in their resume."

Jobvite Video is another innovative addition to Jobvite's recruitment platform, including Jobvite Engage, the 2014 winner of HR Tech Product of the year that enables companies to market and build talent pools, Jobvite Refer, the pioneering social recruiting tool that has changed the marketplace, as well as Jobvite Hire, the company's flagship applicant tracking system used by the world's fastest-growing companies.

The announcement came this morning at the HR Technology Conference and Expo. Conference attendees can receive a demo at Jobvite's booth, #325.

Peoplefluent(R), a leading social human capital management technology company, today introduced Peoplefluent Recruiting Mirror, a groundbreaking recruiting platform that transforms engagement and collaboration with an unmatched interactive experience for job candidates, corporate recruiters and hiring managers. Recruiting Mirror, one of the first solutions in Peoplefluent's new Mirror product line and the first-of-its-kind in the Human Capital Management (HCM) market, features Peoplefluent's best-of-breed talent acquisition solution infused with leading social collaboration technologies and extensive video capabilities to deliver a highly engaging, personalized and intuitive user experience. Peoplefluent Recruiting Mirror is being showcased at the HR Technology Conference and Exposition this week in Las Vegas (Booth #1201).

"As the competition for global talent continues to increase, the sustained success of businesses relies deeply upon the ability of human resource (HR) departments to strategically and effectively attract, assess and recruit the right individuals in an efficient timeframe, but with the broadest understanding of a candidate's true competencies and organizational fit," said Jim Lundy, president and CEO of Aragon Research. "This is a tall order, but Peoplefluent's Recruiting Mirror delivers a game-changing approach to a long-time set of traditional recruiting processes - processes that may no longer be as relevant as the sea of talent and set of expectations evolve in a new generation of social and visual technology natives. The Company's new Recruiting Mirror product solutions have changed the landscape and the requirements of recruiting solutions."

Organizations get the most out of talent acquisition solutions when they are aligned closely with business objectives and users' daily workflows to deliver a way to simplify common hiring process tasks. In the development of Peoplefluent's Recruiting Mirror, the Company leveraged both customer feedback and deep user experience research to design a system for engagement - not a static system of record. Organizations that deploy Peoplefluent Recruiting Mirror can create an interactive talent community where candidates can better connect with an organization, recruiters can make better informed and more timely recommendations and hiring managers can leverage data-driven information to expand their workforce.

"With the launch of Peoplefluent's cloud-based Recruiting Mirror, we have combined social collaboration, mobile and video technologies to reinvent the entire hiring and candidate experience with a revolutionary product that reflects the views, experiences and outcomes that are important to each user, dramatically improving productivity and decision-making for organizations worldwide that are competing for the best talent in today's heated labor market," said Jeff Carr, president and CEO of Peoplefluent. "Our Mirror solutions will be a major factor for organizations that need to find and retain the best talent and the solutions will help redefine what is necessary for a new generation of workers looking for the best fit for their careers and professional growth."

The seamless infusion of live video capabilities sets Peoplefluent's Recruiting Mirror apart from other talent acquisition solutions and is more essential than ever given the wide proliferation of video content as a means for improved communication, learning and engagement. Comscore's monthly index of Internet video usage in the U.S. noted that Americans watched more than 46 billion videos in August 2013, with 87 percent of those viewed on the Internet. High impact and high definition video within the Recruiting Mirror complements supporting features like embedded micro-blogging, chat capabilities and editing tools.

In addition to video, the Recruiting Mirror integrates social collaboration tools and talent analytics into the flow of work for each specific type of user through unique dashboards and a single sign-on (SSO) experience. Information relevant to the recruiting process - applicant profile information, a recruiter's recommendations, hiring managers' notes and more - is input by authorized users, securely stored within the infrastructure and then pushed to other users at appropriate times. Instead of manually entering information into various career sites and applicant tracking systems, or using other methods such as e-mail to discuss applicants, users can engage in real-time through the Recruiting Mirror.

HR Technology Conference attendees will be able to see live demos of the Peoplefluent Recruiting Mirror and Peoplefluent's best-of-breed talent management solutions in Las Vegas this week.
