    okie, thanks for the reply...

Susan, your comment on my Facebook article got me thinking: What are your feelings about not only staffing/recruiting firms sending in fake candidates to potential clients, but fake resumes on a job board? (When I say 'fake resume', I mean a phone number or email that links back to a recruiter at a firm?) Do you think there is a correlation to this selling of Facebook personas?
  • Nancy Ford

HI Susan! Thanks for your comment! My trip to Portland only involves crossing the Washington state/Oregon border. Nevermind about sunshine - it's overrated and makes our skin age prematurely. ;) I've never done a local recruiting/training event and it may seem silly, but it makes me a little nervous! Send me to an international/national trade show to meet with clients and candidates and I'm fine. This could be a great growth thing for me. I hope to see you next Friday!
  • Nancy Ford

Thanks Susan! I'll email you. This kind of event being here in PDX is rare so I'd be a fool to miss it! And I may be a lot of things, but I'm no fool. See you there.

Thank you Susan, it was an interesting discussion and I could see that some people were able to get some clarification and confirmation that what they are doing is the right thing to do. Overall, building pipelines takes time and the payoff may not be immediate but in the big picture, building relationships, and networking will add to the ROI. Thanks for moderating!

    Susan,

Thank you for allowing me to jump in again and go off on a tangent. This is the only place I can go to work some of these things out of my head. Can you imagine how wound up I would be if I did not get it out?
  • Claudia Faust

Thanks for moderating another interesting discussion, Susan. I kept getting bumped off, but what I was able to join was fun. I'll try again next week!
  • Claudia Faust

Sometimes the chat box freezes (it did it to me twice during the chat), and sometimes the whole page just freezes up. I can't tell if it's my computer, or just what. It's been a long month for me with technology -- but that's a whole different whine and cheese party. Good thought to ask Jason, I'll do that. Thanks!

Good morning!~Thank you for your comment Susan..and for another interesting discussion. I had some technical difficulties..during the discussion.. however... It's been interesting as I continue to explore the careerpath (both corporate and agency side) for sourcing.. It's been exciting to participate in your discussion. I hope to participate further next week. Have a great Wednesday Susan!

Hi Susan!~ Good morning.. I know I see you at Twitter.. but I happen to be here at recruitingblogs to follow up.. Look forward to your TalentCafe this afternoon. I will not be late this time!~ Interested in what else I can learn.. and hopefully contribute.. Have a great Tuesday morning!~

    hi Susan......nice profile.... :)

    Hey Susan -
Thanks for the add and the chat session today. I am looking forward to the next session.

Susan, I've heard a lot about you. You're a smart woman. So why do you think you have to tell us that you're female in your profile. Isn't that redundant? Also, I like the long hair photo better. Don't go short again.
  • Joshua Letourneau

Susan, btw, I only put the following out on ERE once . . . but wanted to pass it on. The reason I avoid putting too much original thought on ERE is because you'll find your thoughts in a 'feature article' shortly thereafter!!!

    www.Marines.com
    http://our.marines.com

I mean, yes, I am biased as a former Marine. However, putting that aside, all I can say is WOW. Is this not a careers site on steroids? WOW again.
  • Recruiting Animal

Isn't this you in high school? I think your hair looks better now. Tha's all.

"Pour me another tequila, Shiela. And lay down and love me tonight"

Hey, Suze, you're making me think that maybe The Recruiting Animal Show needs a lounge for the guests with a fully stocked bar, including coffee with rum for the cosmopolitan types.

(Tell me, when is Starbucks going to start serving a French breakfast? I see money there, Howie).

In the meantime, I'll just start reading up on you so that when your schedule changes (and your day comes) The Animal Panel will be ready and able to greet you with our special brand of felicity.

Hi, Susan - glad you checked out the site. I mean, wow, they really are doing some cool things to integrate parents, people thinking about joining, and all the other 'integral nodes' of a person's life and decision-making process.

A few months ago, I tried to vote for them (or at least get them into the competition for recruiting awards on ERE) . . . but it just died in its tracks for reasons unknown. I'd love to recommend others go check out some of the things they're doing because there truly are some neat things going on over there on the site :)

I honestly see some recruiting innovation over there . . . but since joining is more than just a job, I know that some of the tactics wouldn't translate as well (and let's be honest that they're mainly targeting 17 - 23 yr olds . . . meaning the game is a little different).

Anyway, glad you liked it :)
  • Joshua Letourneau

Susan, hey I thought of something and wanted to get your thoughts. Over at the forum discussion on the Twitter Trap, I noticed that the 2 counterpoints were from RBC females. In my estimation, women are much better communicators than men (hey, call me crazy!)

And this led me to consider that 80% of the candidate pool I work in is male . . . and twittering what a hot dog tastes like at 11am might go over like a lead balloon!

I'd be very interested in seeing where the success stories are coming from (is it Gen-Y, is it mainly female, is it in the tech sector, etc.).

Good food for thought . .. . ya think?
  • Joshua Letourneau

    Hi, Susan :) Hey, I'm on Twitter :) Here's my personal: twitter.com/jletourneau

I also have one I use only for my work niche . . . but haven't market segmented ("Mikey-seg'd") it down beyond a simple EE Reg/Compliance focus.
  • Joshua Letourneau

P.S. I was just suggesting that I've been getting better results with my particular micro-candidate-niche by staying more value-driven (blogs, links, articles, press releases, and stuff like that). :)
  • Joshua Letourneau

Hi, Susan - yeah, I'll certainly be at Kennedy ;) Who knows - maybe we'll even handle a panel together? ;) But ERE - probably not as I imagine I'm banned for saying RBC is superior! Well, that's what I get for being honest in the world of social media :)

Anyway, yeah, we'll definitely meet up at Kennedy and I'd love to take you up on your offer.
  • Jonathan Fest

I enjoyed the conversation regarding twitter, were connected on Linkedin and hope to do so here as well.

Susan, sorry I missed you today as well. I observed Talent Talk Café shifting significantly toward a CRM discussion (with a vendor) last week, so when I saw today’s topic listing advertising “CRM as the most important innovation in staffing ever”, I was very surprised. I’m saying this with a smile, so please don’t take offense, but I’m not a guy that buys into foregone conclusions. If the TTC topic was framed as “Is CRM the most important innovation in Staffing?”, I promise I would have attended. However, the topic wasn’t a question – it was a statement in this particular case.

So today, I chose to not be a voice of non-agreement in a chat room. I didn't think it would be cool to rain on Talent Logistics parade, because I'm sure the product is awesome. A conference call or live discussion – maybe I would have been more open . . . but not in a chat room given the context of a vendor presenting. Know what I mean?

Let me explain: I remember CRM being the hottest thing nearly a decade ago. This conversation appeared to be a déjà vu . . . because CRM was positioned as the hottest thing to hit Marketing at that time. Ridiculous articles and advertisements littered the landscape. The result? Heavy investments and little to nothing to show for it. The notion of the “right offer to the right customer at the right time” never panned out. That being said, perhaps Staffing will be different.?. It very well might - Only time will tell.

For the record, I’m not saying CRM isn’t a super solution to many needs – I’m a huge fan of Salesforce.com and even use it for some client projects as well :) Do we use it for CRM? Partially. Do we use it for SFA? Partially. Frankly, I’m a huge fan of Software as a Service (SaaS), so I like the monthly seat pricing! That being said, I have been outspoken that Staffing Leaders, Recruiters, and Sourcers are being spoon-fed more and more technology – every time I attend a conference, the technology bloat seems to have grown even larger proportions. What happens as a result? Discussions revolve around technologies instead of core fundamentals. An analogy I can offer is likening this phenomenon to a bunch of Marines standing around talking about how a new rifle is going to help them acquire targets at night through thermal imaging . . . instead of focusing on the core fundamentals of stealth, camouflage, and movement. It’s not always innovation that moves the needle.

I will be honest I agree with Jim Collins that technology is an accelerator of momentum, not a creator of it . . . and for that, I admit that I’m more an early-market pragmatist than an early adopter :)

Hi Susie, Following up with Gretchen Ledgard info. .

She's a nice person. Started up the very successful Microsoft Jobsblog with Zoe Goldring. Here's an old interview. And here's something interesting about Microsoft Blog Culture

This was a very successful blog and it looks like the blogging strategy is expanding. But I'm not aware of any company that compares -- and they've had four years to duplicate it.

Also, the Microchicks used to be an active part of the recruiting blog community. That's not the case anymore.

    Hi Susan,
I always enjoy your Talent Talk chats! Unfortunately, I won't be at either of those conferences. Maybe next year. :)
  • Ben Gotkin

Susan - Thank you for the kind words. TTC has become a great forum for sharing, I truly enjoy being a part of it.
  • Slouch

Thanks susan, it was fun to do.
  • Harvey Clay

Hi Susan. Thanks for connecting and for the kind words. No plans yet for a Conference this Fall. Thanks for all you are doing with TTC. I really enjoy the dialog. I am on East Coast time, and am usually logged in to the Chats during a busy time in the day, so my participation has been minimal. I'll try and "step it up" in the future :-).
    All the best,
    ~Harvey
