Topic: Titles and Degrees: Obnoxious or Necessary?: ed my buttons, in the wrong way. The top line of the resume was styled: "Dr. John Smith". No, this is not for a medical or research orientated position. It's for a management consulting position. And this guy got his "DM" (as it's styled on his resume) from a well known institution that specializes in online degrees. I've seen loads of resumes styled "John Smith, MBA" or "John Smith, PhD", or "John Smith (insert really hard to get certification here)". And while those annoy me a little, I didn't get the nail-on-chalkboard that I got with this guy. I know several PhD's in liberal arts, engineering, and business, and NONE of them use Doctor as their title. Is it just me? What are your thoughts? Oh, and the cookies? When he asked why, they replied that there was a strange odor in the office that was bothering them and thought it could be sewer gas but smelled like BO. He finally got the message because he did have a medical problem so fessed up. They made arrangements for him to see a physician and suggested that he might pay particular attention to getting suits cleaned more often and perhaps bringing a fresh shirt to the office if needed durning the day. the other alternative is to ask him if he has a problem and mention that you have a close friend with the same problem who was able to get it under control with doctor recommended deordant. Comment on: Blog Post 'Why do the good ones disappear???': ates whom I recently placed. I spent over an hour with her over the phone on a Wednesday night. Chit chatted about things in her life, what she is looking for in a job, what her "pain points" are, etc. The job I am trying to fill met everything she wanted (right pay, right commute, right job responsibilites, stability, benefits, perm, etc.) except she wanted to do it all from home and this job in onsite (remote jobs are pretty typical for coders who are highly experienced). This individual only has 2 years of experience, but she is working contract for a great hospital. I am trying to set her up for a temp-to-hire position, but when it comes down to asking her for an interview time this is the feedback I received: "I'm sick and need to go to the doctor" "I will let you know in 4 days" ..or the great SILENCE number lol. Obviously, I don't believe she is truly interested but she will sometimes come back and say she still wants to interview, but won't give me an interview time!
