Topic: SCAM? What say you?: n watching, studying. So, late last week, I thought I would check back to see if there was, now, an increased need for recruiters or staffing professionals. In theory, if the economy is better, evidence would be present on the biggest, most often-visited job board, right? hmmm Last Friday, these were the HR listings in Los Angeles/Long Beach, California: Fri Jul 17 *STAFFING FIRM HIRING NOW - *Worldwide Global Corporation Needs HR Manager/Generalist -$90-120k DOE - *Human Resources Generalist - (Pasadena) *PERSONAL ASSISTANT FOR HIGH END WESTSIDE FAMILY - (BEL AIR) *Employee Benefits Account Manager - (West LA) The posting that garnered my interest was the STAFFING FIRM HIRING NOW, and I am guessing it must have been posted in several locations, as it appeared to be a virtual position. This is what the posting read: Large Staffing Firm is expanding quickly... We are rapidly growing our coverage into your area. We are looking for Staffing and Recruiting Consultants with a wide range of experience levels. Compensation is based upon experience: Entry-Level (0 - 6 Months) $47,000+ Mid-Level (1 -3 Years) $65,000+ Senior Level (3 - 5 Years) $100,000++ To Apply: Please use the Info Form on our Company Web site Click Here to Register Now: http://recruitingtoday.info/submitresume.php" So curiosity got the better of me and I had to click on the link. Which immediately took me to this page. I decided to test it a bit further and fill in the information requested. I was instantly and I mean instantly bombarded with emails and requests for a morning phone interview, 6am, my time. Not exactly the best time to interview, as far as I am concerned. After the fifth email I sent this message back: "I am an experienced recruiter and have interviewed many individuals over the course of my career, I always give my potential candidates as much information as possible about a position before they interview for that position. I really don't know very much about your company, the actual specifics/extensive duties of the job, who the position reports to, the culture of the company, possibility of growth within the company and so on. Before I commit to an interview at 6:00am PDT, my time, I would really like to know a bit more about the position. Is there some ancillary material you can send me or can you direct me to a more thorough website? I believe these questions qualify me as a serious candidate, not a desperate one. Thank you for your time and consideration." Wrongly thinking this would encourage a qualified response, I received two more times the same email I had initially been sent three times: "Disregard if you're already registered for interview.... FR:Dustin Causey RE: Interview July 23rd - Thursday You recently were on craigslist and inquired about working with our company, can you interview right away? We're looking for several new candidates to help with our growth and expansion. Both entry level and experienced positions are available. We provide very flexible hours for pt/ft positions! We would like to interview you (Thursday @9:00PM EDT) it would be held live online, you don't need a webcam or mic... Duties: You'll match job seekers with vacant job openings we have under contract. Our client base is very well know fortune 1000 companies across the country... Compensation: Part-time & Full-time Positions Compensation: ($42,000 - $84,000) --------------------------------------------------------------- Rayanne, take (30) seconds and click link below to set up your interview, ok.. => http://www.myrecruitingpro.com/register.php <= --------------------------------------------------------------- =>Date: July 23rd - Thursday =>Time: 9 p.m. EDT =>Location: Online Part-time & Full-time Positions Compensation: ($42,000 - $84,000) *Serious applicants only* Dustin Causey VP Business Development 407-373-8668 Recruiting Team, 1611 Minuteman Cswy #207, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931, USA" So, here's the website: http://www.myrecruitingpro.com Anyone familiar? There is a letter from someone named Brock Goldstein, Founder. And there are pop-ups from my perpetual emailer, Dustin Causey. Initially, I couldn't find either one in a LinkedIn search but a google search brought up all kinds of information. If you search Dustin Causey on google, it appears he has a LinkedIn profile and you can click on it, it will take you to a LinkedIn profile with two connections but you can't find it through LinkedIn (??)... When I searched the founder, Mr. Goldstein's, that LinkedIn search came up empty as well, but his google search immediately linked his name with "scam" - I didn't even have to type it, it appeared while I was typing his name. Attached is a screen shot of what came up... Preying on individuals in difficult times. Taking advantage of out-of-work individuals, "you don't even need experience - anyone can do this job." Here are his words exactly: Hi, my name is Brock. I'm a Professional Home-Based Recruiting Consultant. I have helped hundreds of people with no experience, no education, no business background make more money in a month than they use to earn in 3 months combined. You're next, if you pay attention... blah, blah, blah I am interested in the REAL recruiting community's feedback on yet, what appears to be another scam out there. Topic: Not My First Rodeo - Lessons in Social Media Deportment: ut it did. I was stunned and kind of shut down for a few days. With much dread, Writer's Block set in and I felt like maybe I should take a couple weeks or more off. I wrote a simple, heartfelt holiday greeting for my last Bonus Track and wanted to just curl up in a tiny ball. I also felt like apologizing to anyone who had ever read any of my posts. After a weekend and two joyous days off, I have been rejuvenated and felt a spark this morning. So.., the flame within me wasn't and isn't completely out? No. So you can recover from unintentionally hurtful things written in full view and for all of your world to see? Yes. And I am sure no one else saw it as anything different than a stray comment. But it stung me. It also, interestingly enough, inspired me to make a few changes and to alter my thinking about what it is that I do. Why I write like I do. Who is it that I actually write for. Why do I write at all... All good questions and all have been answered. When questions or statements haunt you, it is for a reason, there is purpose and a full review is in order. So in this, my short tale of caution, there is advice for all. There really is no etiquette book for social media. While we certainly need an Emily Post (how fitting is THAT name?) - there is no Ms. Post or Dear Abby or Ask Ann Landers anywhere on the horizon. We are each given governance over our own Social Media land. Who we allow to trespass upon it, or to build a house. Who we allow to stop in for a spot of tea or a game of tug-of-war. Who we allow access to our medicine cabinet and our photo albums stuffed in the back hall closet. Our lives are more open than ever now. Mine is anyway. I decided several years ago, with the onslaugt of Social Media everywere and the facts and fears about Big Brother, that I would take control of what is out there about me. I would be open about my work and about who I am. This is not for everyone, certainly, but it is for me. Throughout this week, I will be posting ideas about Social Media ethics and etiquette. I am not an expert but this is not my first rodeo. The wind was blowing 60 miles an hour in the Texas panhandle yesterday. Wind pisses me off and makes me a little crazy. Couldn't do anything outside except walk in a controlled fall so here is what i sent back. John, Diet products and nutritional supplements were not food the last time I looked. However given your personal attack on my ability to review a resume it seems I have saved my client from wasting time with a hostile personality. To which he responded: "Absolutely not hostile just some constructive criticism regarding your evaluative short comings." About that time a big branch blew off an oak tree, knocked over the fountain in the front yard and broke two sprinkler heads. So i thought , "do i ever want to interact with this ass ever again and do i care if he gets elected president of the United States in two years.\? "Nope, he's an ass and i'm in the mood to kick one. So my response went as follows: John, Here is some constructive criticism for you for future interaction. Read the post. Very clearly stated: Industry background firm requirement. Agriculture ,Food, Not for Profit - Charitable. You have never been associated with anything even closely related to agriculture. Most people do not regard diet pills as food or sports drinks as food. None of the companies you have been associated with have been in the non profit vertical. You have no indication of having done anything since 2009. Many candidates have been out of permanent work since 09'. They have done consulting, worked outside their field doing something or have taken over responsibilities at home while looking for a new position. They say so on their resume. Have you just been firing out resumes then throwing a Nellie Bitch fit when you are declined since 2009? You do not provide a full resume of all career experience. Employers are automatically dropping those resumes in file 13. They don't care how old you are they simply want to know your career experience. If only dates, companies and title on early career. Employers are requiring dates of education as are recruiters because if a candidate puts a degree on a resume and a degree is required both recruiters and companies will verify the degree. Recruiters verify before we submit a candidate who states they have a degree. It does not matter if you have 50 years of experience if a degree is indicated it will be verified. Nobody not even God can verify a degree without the date. A lot of people have graduated from your school in the past 20 years and some of them have the same name you have, unfortunately. If a recruiter is courteous enough to respond to your application within a few hours of submittal even if it is to let you know that your background is not a fit. Accept that we know what our clients want, have done you the courtesy of reviewing your resume and have bothered to respond rather than just hit delete and let it go into the black hole . A lot of recruiters do not do so and your jackass attack is the reason why. The reason I have been a successful recruiter for over 35 years is that I can and do evaluate resumes effectively. As it seems you are having a problem finding something I would suggest that you might have better results if you evaluated the job description carefully. Made your resume as complete as possible. Wrote a cover letter addressed personally to the person posting the job correlating your experience to the industry and product that is required. And above all it will be in your best interest to not attack someone who tells you your background is not a fit and why. It is highly possible that next week I will be looking for an SVP of marketing requiring the exact background you have indicated on your resume. Due to your response your resume will not be considered for any future positions and will be deleted. Our clients rely on us to screen out candidates who exhibit obnoxious, arrogant personality defects. I have been doing just a tad bit of marketing of both people and professional services for about twice the time frame you bothered to include on your resume. There is one thing i know for sure. Responding to someone who doesn't want to buy what you are selling by telling them they don't know what they are doing does not an effective marketer make. I would suspect that this is not the first time you have responded in this manner which might have something to do with the fact that nothing shows up on your resume since 2009. Your resume was one of over 300 i have reviewed for this position. To give you more feedback yours fell in the bottom quadrant of the 300. Of the 297 declines i have sent several have argued, they were managing fast food joints and did not understand the posting. I consider myself fortunate that you are the only jackass who felt in necessary to tell me i don't know how to do my job because you can't read. Have a lovely Sunday, i have wanted to tell a jerk they were a jerk for about the last five years so let me assure you made my afternoon.
