The illness was not something that anyone could of predicted but has has the same type of effect an addiction can have on your ability to be consistent. Life and work have changed in a significant way. "The stuff" you mention can be overwhelming. This same issue can happen with a disrupted household. A spouse losing a job with no additional source of income in the offing. Fear is huge and can be paralyzing. Topic: Chill Out Mom!: ortunately, my mind is struggling with the whole "try to relax" thing. Work is such a part of who I am that I just fully expected to manage incomings with no problem whatsoever.I wouldn't say that I am a workaholic for that would indicate some kind of addiction. It leans more toward a very strong "like."Actually, it is safe to say that I love my work. It is something I really like, that I enjoy, that I appreciate, that challenges me, that inspires me, that motivates me, and that teaches me.Being a perpetual student is part of why I love to work. There are many times during my day when I just stop and listen to what is going on around me. There is always something to learn, to benefit my life, my work. Sometimes I worry about how dependent I - we - society has become on technology. Evident of this was my reaction to no internet the closer I drove toward where my family reunion was to be held. My children will glady testify to the despair I readily displayed as I watched the connectivity bars disappear from my mobile device.Interestingly enough, by the time I adjust to being on vacation and actually release enough to relax, I will be on my way back home, on my way back to work, on my way back to reality. Which brought the wrath of my grandfather down on my nine year old head and made me very aware of how long it takes to scrub black paint off a white horse. Thinking he was doing something fun on my birthday one year in early nineties, my friend came in my office accompanied by a crusty old man carrying a bull whip and introduced me to Lash. It was not a pretty picture. It was four in the afternoon and Lash was loaded to the gills. My friend, a non drinker, decided that what we needed to do was take old Lash to dinner and sober him up. A noble plan but one that hardly ever works. To make a long and painful story short. Lash consumed about 12 drinks of straight something on the rocks, passed out in his plate after regaling everyone within hearing distance of a foghorn all about his eleven marriages and his fall from grace in the movie industry. My childhood hero was destroyed before my eyes. My friend is still apologizing to me. It may have been smoking that caused the emphysema that finished old Lash off but i can testify that a crashing addiction to the demon rum probably had a lot to do with the organism shutting down. If he was as pickled when they cremated him as he was the day my friend brought my childhood hero into my office the cremation would have been a flash fire.
