With the onslaught of the numerous ways we are able to connect with clients, potential clients, candidates, and potential candidates, there is hardly a need to make a true cold call ever again. If planned carefully, calls will be warm and made on the heels of the most recent surge of information distributed by you and your company. Filtration and isolation of your targeted audience changes the game a bit. No longer reduced to several hundred cold calls a week, the ability to get intentional in approach is accessible to those that take advantage of the technology at their finger tips. Branding, removing walls, and attracting quality talent to a particular position or company is possible with less time and money wasted on perusal through purchased lists and painstakingly compiled CRMs. Fabergé Organic Shampoo had an ad campaign featuring Heather Locklear several ago that featured the "telling two friends" concept, and they told two friends and so on and so on. That was viral marketing at its most primal. Now we can tell two hundred friends and so on and so on. Between newsfeeds and status updates, there really is no reason everyone in your network should be "in the know" as to what you are currently up to. Topic: Linkedin Changes Ability to Access 3rd Level Connections-Thoughts?!?: re the 15th most visited site http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/linkedin.com. I recently saw a statistic that they are a site that 91% of all recruiters/human resources professionals use on a weekly basis. To put this into perspective, the 2nd most visited site in the world is Facebook and Twitter is 10th http://www.alexa.com/topsites What this means is that Linkedin is growing at an awesome rate. They have a ton of members, services and are ready to start capitalizing on the "addiction" that we all have to their site. We all have our own motivations to go there, but at some level it is for leads. I will leave the definition of what you refer to as a lead up to you. I recently saw the movie The Social Network and am sort of a tech geek so I felt the need to see it a second time. There is a part in the movie that Mark Zuckerberg talks about not wanting to "monatize" the site with silly Mountain Dew ads. He said this because Facebook has something "cool" right now. That dialogue intrigued me because up until November when Linkedin shut down access to being able to see your 3rd level connections for free, they too were cool. The site was free and as long as you grew your network you could have a huge level of access to the people on Linkedin. This leads me to the point. Linkedin no longer allows you to view your 3rd level connections in a given search. You now only see first name and the first initial of their last name. So instead of Mark Truchan, I would see Mark T. Why is this so important? If I have 500 direct connections on Linkedin that would be my 1st level of connections. If my 500 connections each had 500 connections, you would have 250,000 2nd level connections. Last, if those 250,000 people had 60 people on average they are connected to, you would have 15,000,000 people in your network. Well you just lost the ability to see 14.75 million people in your network as a whole. Of course you can pay to regain access to see these people and Linkedin is betting that you will. The other alternative is to send hundreds of messages out to people to connect with you on Linkedin, hoping they don't say they, "don't know you." In fact if 5 people do that, you lose your ability to connect to people. This is so time consuming and frankly not fun to have to come up with an excuse/lie to say you know someone. I am sure this is news to some of you and this is something you may have grown to love/hate or live with for others. Please letme know your thoughts. These trials were instrumental in a complete uprooting from the great Northwest to where she happily now calls home, Florida. Staying in Florida wasn't even on the plate until a fateful walk that literally, put her on a collision course to meet her true destiny. Her destiny was not only her wonderful husband but also Improved Experience - a feedback software to help employers better attack hiring and retention issues within their companies. Claudia is thoughtful when she takes a peek at her history, "When you look at it from this side, you can see the outcome of everything in my life, everything that happened. If you could attach a thread to each point and pull, aw, the effect. Very powerful, looking back and seeing that thread of connectivity." She touches briefly on the pay it forward principle, a common theme today and quickly moves on to the significant impact we, as recruiters and HR professionals, can have on someone's life. "Every recruiter has this kind of story. Back when I was at Amazon, I was working on a pretty difficult search, a lot of cherry picking and hand-sourcing, no heavy google work at the time. This person was a beautiful fit for the role, went through the entire interview process. The Hiring Manager and team were extremely fussy when it came to hiring. It was that same time that he called me to share the news that his wife had just been diagnosed with cancer." He would not be taking the job. What do you say? The job was at corporate headquarters, no chance for remote employment. Claudia spoke with this candidate about the future and it turned into a conversation about what Amazon was going to do - he had been the guy, the placement. This was a selective team and he had already established such rapport with Claudia, the HM and team; he cared about what they would now do. He offered the names of some potential candidates that could do the job, perhaps even better than he. One of those referrals did end up being the hire. "The Hiring manager and candidate connected so strongly, that they still maintain a relationship today." Sometimes, it is about the one that got away. How do we incorporate the Butterfly Effect into our lives? "We clearly have to be aware, you can't be aware of every nuance. The brilliance of it is that it is imperceivable, that ripple effect." She shared advice that had been passed to her, Wherever you are, be there. Be present in the moment. "Be aware of the sensitivity of this. Be aware of those relationships. The ripple effect is what it is. Hopefully, you bring good intentions." This is part of Claudia's rules of engagement, "If your intentions are good, if your clarity is high, then at least the consequences of an interaction can be better aligned with your values." The term The Butterfly Effect is based in chaos theory and is resultant of the idea that merely a slight change in the flap of a butterfly's wings may illicit minuscule changes that could, ultimately, alter the path of a tornado.
