Topic: Titles and Degrees: Obnoxious or Necessary?: ed my buttons, in the wrong way. The top line of the resume was styled: "Dr. John Smith". No, this is not for a medical or research orientated position. It's for a management consulting position. And this guy got his "DM" (as it's styled on his resume) from a well known institution that specializes in online degrees. I've seen loads of resumes styled "John Smith, MBA" or "John Smith, PhD", or "John Smith (insert really hard to get certification here)". And while those annoy me a little, I didn't get the nail-on-chalkboard that I got with this guy. I know several PhD's in liberal arts, engineering, and business, and NONE of them use Doctor as their title. Is it just me? What are your thoughts? Oh, and the cookies? Comment on: Blog Post '10 Predictions for Recruitment & Staffing in 2012': uld focus on lottery numbers instead of blog posts! Seriously though; as a recruiter I am not so concerned that job seekers use either Facebook or Twitter to find a job, just that they use them. If lawyers all drink in the same bar and I can pop in and start a conversation with them as a legal recruiter (for example), then its up to me to build some relationships and turn these relationships into placements; same goes for social media. Its just another place where people hang out and can be categorised by skill/ profession/ location etc. The website traffic stats suggest to me that Facebook has peaked and Twitter has a long way to go but FB could turn around and launch a killer revamp tomorrow whilst Twitter might muck up and annoy its growing user base. Nonetheless, it should be an interesting year. Nevertheless, I say, “So be it.” I always appreciated the flipside of “success” in the classic conundrum in the old ABC Sports promo – “The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat! The human drama of athletic competition.” This easily applies to recruitment because the competition is fierce and accomplishments are hard earned. I feel when you succeed—be proud of it. Relish the moment. If it’s a fist-pump, partying with the team, receiving an honor…or going on a shopping spree…enjoy the moment and crow about it every now and then. My plaques, checks, trophies, medals and ribbons inspire me to always strive to do even better. I value my oldest accomplishments as much as my most recent.
