Topic: "Reply with Remove in Subject Line": hile others slip through the cracks. The firms sending these emails are "pimps", they are low lifes who have no clue how to skill market talent. They are flesh peddlers, most of the time representing consultants with fictious qualifications. Geez, their resumes all look a like. They must use a damn template. Most of the time they use bogus email addresses so you cannot reply to be removed from their list. Others inundate you with email after email, after email. I like to play with their heads and reply numerous times with "Remove" in the subject line. So, what can we do to rid ourselves of these scum sucking time wasters? Comment on: Topic 'As job boards restrict access to resumes, what is your game plan?': hat the wrong people will gain access to thier information. Although I don't see the main boards out there drastically changing anything right away, this will definately put the issue on their radar. I have thought for some time now that we may have to return to the "old fashioned" recruiting/sourcing methods of actually meeting, talking with and networking with people rather than connecting via internet or phone. Those mediums can and will still be used but they should be secondary. I think the first meeting is the most important and sets the tone for the relationship moving forward. We are going to have to get out there and start "pressing the flesh" more often which will lead to more personal referrals and in turn more first hand business leads. Comment on: Topic '"blind" resumes when marketing candidates?': act info, when I am marketing a candidate to build business with companies I don't have a fee agreement with yet. It comes in handy if I call into a company, and get referred to the hiring authority ( hr or otherwise ) by whoever I talk to first. It's something I can send over that shows what I do, yet isn't my own marketing material, it helps flesh out if there is an actual need, and still protects my candidate. They want me to find them a new opportunity, not shotgun their name everywhere so I can get new clients. Maybe I'm wrong in this, but I've always been very "candidate driven".. even if the interviews or positions don't work out, I get my calls returned, and lots of referrals, so having candidates to work with isn't really a problem.…; Added by Thomas Patrick Chuna at 11:27am on May 9, 2009

This means that they are mostly online, building transactional relationships by phone. We've got a phrase in our business. It's not who you know, but how well you know them. Pressing the flesh is such an important thing to do not just for meeting passive candidates but also for weak links and referrals they can give you but only once you've developed a relationship with them. The second aspect we can do better is focus. They usually have loads of vacancies. Maybe we just take one or two a month. Therefore we can take their 'trash' vacancies that they are putting at the bottom of their to do list day after day because they are so hard. Simultaneously, it is vital to have contacts and relationships with Hiring Principals as well. Working with HR to facilitate that kind of connection is vital. HR does us many favors, which we, as Recruiters, should acknowledge. Still, Recruiters need to set up appropriate boundaries and be assertive about communicating with decision-makers when needed. The idea of any one class or set or category of people being foes is generally dubious. It is mostly a symptom of bigotry (in the sense of prejudice against any type or sort [identified by a 'sortal rule'] of person). Bigotry never helps the recruiter...
