So maybe a couple of kids from another neighborhood came into the yard and took a couple pears off the pear tree. Well, this pissed off the old man. As a result the old man put up a fence with a gate and a list of rules next to the gate. These rules banned those kids who brought too many friends to the yard. These rules demanded that kids in his yard not associate with too many kids from other neighborhoods. These rules would not allow the children to continue to play the way they had played for so many years with his beautiful wife. You know what happens to bitter cynical old men like these? They end up divorced living by themselves with an overgrown lawn and a weed infested flower bed filled with dead roses. The only visitors these bitter cynical old men get are mailmen delivering bills and bad news. LI has progressed over the years from a social/semi-professional network to a database and finally it is starting to become “yard with an overgrown lawn and with weeds throughout the garden”. The worst part, as Maren alluded to, is that the “El Kid” that did so much to develop this yard now has to jump the fence. I’m lucky I am the administrator of a LI group with only 750 members so only a few of my friends have been banned, un-like “El Kid”, who had his entire trainload of friend kicked out. [Solo] And the sign says "Everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray" But then they passed around a plate at the end of it all And I didn't have a penny to pay So I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own fuckin' sign I said, "Thank you Lord for thinking 'bout me, I'm alive and doing fine", oh Thank you Five Man * Electrical * Band! In my Beadle mode, I despise front-runners, thread hi-jackers, and trojan horse jockeys of all kinds, while that stuff does not bug many others; some even find it savvy behavior rather than sleazy behavior. Likewise with headline inflators- the bloggers and media types who write trollish headlines on purpose. It's low class, but not very many people mind. Sandra does. A problem with ethics and honesty in general is that stuff is situational and fluid in time and place, and that many, many people do a lot of good things and a few bad things, or vice versa. That's the central problem of history: its impossible to understand many human decisions without a great understanding the moment, and that's often just not possible. In the scheme of things, who foresaw Bill Gates saving lives by the thousand fighting disease in the third-world and spending billions on education NOT involving Microsoft products, while at the same time Steve Jobs would be in full flower showing sharper kleptocratic fangs than Gates could have dreamed of back in the day ? We will have to finally judge them when they are finished- as for us all. But till then, ain't it great that we all can post rippers like Rayanne's ? It was 8 to 5 even if there was enough ice on the highway that one had to leave home at 5:00 AM and drive with two wheels off the pavement to keep from sliding into a ditch. I had nightmares about hearing my boss pontificate about "We sell the air around us and if we are not here it won't go on the air". I wanted him to start gasping for some of that air every time he said it. Ducking out on Friday is good. my clients all want to but since they can't they seem to decide to call the headhunter at 4:00 on Friday afternoon. What the hell, it gives me something to do over the weekend. @Paul, Thanks but i just have one question. How come it is i worked hard when i was young and i'm still putting my nose to the grind stone? Nevermind, i have a favorite poem. If you put your nose to the grind stone rough... Topic: My friend Siobhan is having an AHA moment.: h a miscarriage. I got really depressed, so I decided to stop everything and go to Africa to try to see if I could help other people. I ended up volunteering with this organization that did malaria prevention in Uganda. One of the women I met with was Jamira, who’s a midwife. Something happened when I met her. I was staring at the bed where thousands of women have had their babies with the same black, blood-soaked pad. They were just deplorable conditions. I said, ‘I can help change this.’ What I realized was if Jamira just had gloves, scissors, and pain medication instead of just the traditional herbs, she could help prevent all kinds of medical problems. When I met Jamira, I saw that I can make a difference in the world. I can make an enormous difference. If I put a little bit of elbow grease into this, I can change the world significantly. My goal is to have 250 of these clinics around the world, wherever women have their babies in impoverished communities. My organization, OneMama, is this bigger model. I want to make this a revolutionary social change. We can all find that little inscription in our heart to show that we can make a difference in the world. Aha moments, I believe, are components of all the pieces of us that have been seeding in the soil getting ready to grow the flower that is supposed to help us bloom. If the young and the restless had any idea of the work involved in civilizing the young animals of the species they would find out what causes them and quit spewing little frogs without hair , teeth and eyebrows then spending the next 25 years wondering where they went wrong. I had kids because I hate to take out the trash and I plan to live long enough to have one of those five generation pictures. We have one of those but my great grandmother looks like sha had been dead for a month so I'm taking good care of myself. Your Texas friend went to the charm school all us steel magnolias go to (I flunked out) did she used to say, (gawd,she's so dumb her head must be full owl poop?). @Vanessa you get it, girlfriend. You can't believe how many old farts haven't figured out they have to be a part of making it happen and there are two parts to work. Making it happen when the window of opportunity opens then thinking about how to make it happen tomorrow and watching the window for the next time it opens. I totally agree that it has nothing to do with age except that the GenY's like you who get it early have lots more time to pile up clamshells and the time to enjoy playing with their shells. @paulA, Europeans fascinate me.
