Topic: Question of the day: What is the biggest risk you have ever taken as a recruiter?: but no clients with opportunities in the candidate’s desired area. So the recruiter decided to send the resume to a few companies that were not existing clients in the hopes it would identify an opening. Although the sending out of a blind resume in not a new approach for agency recruiters, in this case the gamble was made to send the resume in it's entirety. This risky approach paid off in that there was a response and consequently, a placement. More importantly, the company that made hire admired the recruiter’s straight forward approach and gave him several more job orders. As the saying goes, with great risk comes chance for great reward. So the cost vs risk of hiring a Sourcer increases and no matter how many more volume of calls a recruiter makes expanding their effort levels not only might they not fill the job, they don't know when they'll secure their next "A" recruiting assignment. So it becomes a lack of confidence in revenue stream. The sourcing is still vital, but the recruiter ultimately needs to do more of it themself. I didn't know of her in the good times, but a Sourcer like Maureen Sharib who really understands what she's doing targeting/finding that vital "list of names" which is the lifeblood of what I need to succeed confident I had numerous "A" assignments to fill ensuring a revenue stream is someone I'd be encorporating frequently. Social media is still in its infancy and there are tremendous business opportunities for the "ballsy" company. Recruitment is a tag on to a successful business platform: ie: Linkedin is a good example. but as the social media business model evolves all bets are off. There is a significant difference on how these tools play out based on the type of recruiter using the platform: corporate recruiters vs agency recruiters. One is dealing with a large volume while the agency recruiter is working let's face it on more of a quality level. So how they use and are influenced by the tools are quite different. Agency recruiters will always tap their own network vs. just going to the tool du jour (although we do use them) but a corporate recruiter will have to adopt the various popular tools simply due to volume.
