PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving complex engineering problems, developing analysis methods and processes, and determining program objectives and requirements. • Compile and translate contract requirements into work tasks. • Plan, organize and prioritize work contents based on project deliverables. • Perform detailed stress analysis of cabin or cargo components, by classical hand analysis as well as Finite Element methods, to support the structural design efforts of new and modified components from the conceptual phase to development and certification. • Generate stress substantiation reports. • Develop or review structural qualification plans in accordance with standards and regulatory requirements. • Review and approve vendor drawings, stress reports, and test reports when delegated. • Coordinate with design engineers, team lead, suppliers and technical management personnel to assure that the design meets or exceeds the project deliverables and complies with the regulatory requirements. • Coordinate stress activities between company and the respective suppliers. • Participate in regularly scheduled design reviews, and is responsible to present stress findings and challenge design solutions. • Develop research plans and participate in industry committees at company’s request. Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of Structural Mechanics in order to recommend innovations to improve the quality, performance, cost of the company product. • Compile and generate progress reports to convey deliverable objectives. • Provide guidance to junior level stress engineers with regards to analysis methods, process or tools. • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and sense of urgency for completing work assignments. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES: • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Advanced engineering degree preferred. • Position requires in-depth knowledge of Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials and Aircraft Structural Analysis. • Minimum of 15 years in aircraft stress analysis, and experience in Cabin and Cargo preferred. • Experience in static (FE and free-body) and transient analysis, with working knowledge of fatigue and damage tolerance. • DER/DOA AR or demonstrated ability to approve Stress work required. • Good leadership skills. • Able to utilize Nastran, Patran, MathCad, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project PC tools. • Ability to be self directed and work in diverse teams. • Ability to lead and/or mentor team members. • Ability to write reports, specifications, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. • Excellent Communication & Organization skills needed, along with the ability to coordinate meetings. Comment on: Blog Post 'Call for Mr. Hole, First Name: Jack': th the doctor nor does a dentist take X-rays until after you have gone into their office. I don't know about anybody else but if I called a doctor or dentist and was told I needed to go to the lab for tests or X-rays before I was able to see either I would find another doc or dentist. If a doc, dentist, banker, architect, interior decorator called me soliciting me as a client then wanted my X-rays, test results, wanted to see my house or wanted the info about my property before I had decided for sure that I wanted to work with them they wouldn't get that information. Let's not forget here, who contacted whom and how. If that banker sent you an email saying they wanted to possibly make you a loan, you emailed back that you were interested in speaking with them. They left you a voice mail trying to reach you and in the same message asked for information to do a credit check before you spoke to them. If a dentist or doctor emailed you soliciting you as a patient, you emailed back, they left you a message to go to the lab. In all of those situations a professional does not ask for personal information prior to at a minimum a phone call. Keep in mind people, we work with hundreds of resumes. Each person only has one resume ( with a few notable exceptions). A resume to us is one of a hundred we may look at in a day, to each person it is their life story so they might be more than hesitant to put it in the hands of anyone they have not at least spoken with on the phone. The act of sending a resume gives us de facto permission to represent, submit and act as agent for that person. Let's be clear. There is nothing wrong with asking for a resume but asking for a resume from someone you are trying to recruit before they have a chance to speak with you is making the assumption that they want you to represent them,are interested in moving forward with your client and are in fact a fit for the job. Hubris in it's finest form or inexperience at worst. The objective in successful recruiting is to not risk making assumptions that get your nose slapped by either a candidate or a client. The outcome of this example might have been totally different if mr. Jack Mehoff had taken the opportunity to speak on the phone for 10 minutes with a candidate he was trying to recruit who was expressing interest, give her full information about himself and the job before he asked her to give him permission to represent her. The outcome was, she thinks he is a jack wagon, he lost a potentially good candidate and she will talk about it. Timing and keeping in mind that a resume is a person's life story as well as permission to represent and not a word doc. Is in fact part of the candidate experience that we beat our gums about all the time. Unless of course you are copying linkedin profiles and sending them to clients without speaking with the person. If you think there are not idiots doing that, you will run across it. Comment on: Photo 'Top Gun Movie Memorabilia - Collector's Item2': e walls of a restaurant called the "Kansas City Barbeque" located in San Diego, California. How this relates to recruiting is the fact that in 2006 I accompanied a group, of HR managers/directors/VPs and recruiters from number of Nestle divisions, who were attending the National Hispanic MBA Career Conference being held in San Diego, CA at the time. On the first evening there some of us happened to have dinner at the Kansas City Barbeque, to our surprise, the same restaurant bar featured in the movie Top Gun (1986). Those familiar with the movie may remember the scenes, one in which Goose and Maverick (played by Anthony Edwards and Tom Cruise, respectively) belt out "Great Balls of Fire" while seated at the piano." And, "The bar was also used in the final scene, where the song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" is heard playing on the jukebox.[5] The reason why these photographs may have some sentimental value is that the Kansas City Barbeque was gutted by a fire in June of 2008. All of the photographs, many of them autographed by actors and USAF officers/pilots involved with the filming—were destroyed in the fire. The piano and jukebox (can also be recognized in my photos) were also destroyed. What motivated this post was the fact that while watching “Top Gun”, one of my favorite movies, last week it reminded me of some pictures I took years ago during a recruitment trip I took to San Diego, California. And for some odd reason I googled KC Barbeque to see if they had a webpage. To my surprise the following headline got my attention and thus motivated this post. It read: Associated Press-- updated 6/27/2008 9:13:00 AM ET 2008-06-27T13:13:00 Fire guts San Diego eatery featured in ‘Top Gun’ SAN DIEGO — The restaurant where Tom Cruise crooned to Kelly McGillis in the movie “Top Gun” has been gutted by a fire in San Diego. A cook at Kansas City Barbecue says the blaze started Thursday in an open cooking pit and spread quickly to the rest of the restaurant’s interior. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque says the landmark restaurant is “destroyed.” But no one was hurt and the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes. A sign in the restaurant notes that the 1986 movie’s “sleazy bar scene” was filmed there.
