Yes the isolation can be a big problem for some people - if you're going to be a phone sourcer typically you RELISH working alone - in fact - you much prefer it. I am one of those who has ditched virtually everything I used to practice in client winning, to replace it with Twitter & LinkedIn communications. Over the last 2 years I would attribute 90% of clients won and 70% of candidates I have placed to Twitter almost in isolation. Not everyone in every industry is going to achieve the same ratios - but the smart ones will be checking out their industry online influencers there NOW, before the sceptics tuck in on the scraps when it's all too busy later... Comment on: Topic 'Dilemma: Sourcing efforts by 3rd party, AFTER candidate was contacted by employ…': Internal recruiters, just like agency recruiters, are in the business of developing relationships. After first contact it is reasonable to assume that internal recruiter will stay in contact with the given candidate. Frequently revisiting the relationship as circumstances change etc. Undercutting those efforts by ignoring the very instance of first contact is concerning (and perhaps a significant point of strain in that relationship). As a one-time agency recruiter I would always defer to the client. There are hundreds of candidates, and if the efforts an internal recruiter proceeded that of mine - I would gladly tally that up to their efficiency. Comment on: Blog Post 'Kids these days.....': . The result being that there is no transparency because things are contrived to "build their personal brand". The end result seems to be that they are making themselves up as they go. Social culture, really, have we reached the point of personal isolation that interaction with an avatar in 140 characters is social? The problem I see with this sort of communication is the illusion that any sort of communication is really going on. As to who is telling them this goofy stuff...their fellow avatars. They all get on there spit out some goofy stuff and they all retweet it until they believe it. It's like a bunch of four year old kids who find something none of them have ever seen. They ask each other what it is until one of them says ,"I know, it's a mugwumps.". Except he never once put out a dish that passed muster and he had an excuse for everything including his blaming his team mates for bringing him down as he exited the show. Despite all evidence to the contrary, I bet he still thinks he is the most qualified contestant and would tell anyone in shouting distance what a mistake Ramsey made in cutting him. If people are that clueless on in the glare of national TV, then why would we expect them to be more self assessing in the isolation of the internet? I had the same people at my last job apply to 50 jobs from Claims Rep to VP Marketing.
