But whatever the reason, there's new evidence that suggests career changes work out well for the overwhelming majority of older workers because of reduced stress and flexible work schedules. AARP followed over-50 workers for more than a decade to study career changes and find out how they fared. One in four people in the UK regularly work all day without taking a lunch break, according to new research from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, which stated that this is a health risk. According to the study, 54 per cent of workers admit they "always or usually" go to work when they feel stressed or physically unwell and 46 per cent say not enough staff to do the work expected is responsible for their stress. Reacting to the revelations, Ben Willmott, senior public policy advisor for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said the findings "should ring alarm bells for employers".
