Blog Post: D.C. Mayor Wisely Expands Background Checks on Political Hires.

In an economic downturn, there are some employers and many state and local governmental concerns that look to cut costs by avoiding background checks on public officials and political candidates.…

Topic: Partner Sat rating, the true measure of a good Hiring Manager (HM)!!!
and subsequent percentage for success according to a set of questions that is answered with a rating scheme. However, so much of our ability to be good is dependent on our HMs. If you have a good HM you will be successful, if you have a bad one you will fail. To that end, there should be, and in some companies there is, a Partner Sat rating. This would be done the same as the candidate and client sat ratings, only it would be the staffing professionals and HR who work with a given HM who would be rating the HM. This would then allow the powers that be, to see who is truly committed to filling their positions, working with the staffing professionals and HR, and who is not committed and are a detriment to the process.…

Topic: Top 3rd Party Recruiter Trainers
ad the benefit of listening to/reading in my 30 years of recruiting, Steve Finkel. His articles are sage and classic for the times we're in. His advice is all real world-no BS--applicable in good times and bad. He's spoken, written, and published. His articles in The Fordyce Letter over the years on what recruiters need to do to survive has helped me back in the early 90's, early 2000's, and today. One of his best is, as a recruiter, overcoming depression and the subsequent paralysis preventing plan execution, staying "up." http://stevefinkel.com/stayup.asp Steve's email address is stevefinkel.com Specially experienced recruiters who want not only to improve but survive, I highly recommend looking Steve up. You won't regret it. Bill Josephson William James Associates…

Comment on: Topic 'Thought Leader vs. Doer'
gue the people at Apple or Einstein are not great minds that have set incredible trends. But I think the underlying problem is that by terming them "Thought Leaders", you are deeming them "Leaders of thought" - as opposed to "Leaders of technology" or "Leaders of science". In every case you (Paul) mentioned of why we should respect "Thought Leaders" (your term, not mine), there is a subsequent "Doing" that must accompany their "thought" in order to create said trends. There is not an either/or with "Thought" and "Doing": what makes these folks admirable is their ability to combine the two. Again: It's a fundamental disagreement with the use of the term "Thought Leader". Like I said before, I think it ultimately short-changes people who ought to be considered "Innovators".…

DI am going to respond just once. THERE WILL BE NO SUBSEQUENT REPLIESIn 2007 Donna Zhao’s company supplied leads to our firm. Unfortunately, two of the candidates failed to meet the guarantee period and subsequently either fees were not paid or refunded to the client. Eagle recruiting failed to refund their portion of the fee earned. The fee for the third candidate was applied to the outstanding refund and therefore it was a wash, actually we took a hit for part of it. In 2007 a letter was received from an attorney office requesting information, which was provided by our attorney. Our attorney provided the specifics and there was no subsequent correspondence. The files are archived and I have no intention of paying any further attorney fees to have the case reopened. Now 3 years later, Donna Zhao apparently wakes from what I can only assume is a drunken or drug induced stupor or whatever, with the sole intention of extorting money. Her posting suggests that we have changed phone numbers and that she was unable to reach us. We have had the same phone number since 2004.Her company, according to the State of Tennessee, was dissolved in 2008, though she still represents herself and an LLC.Yesterday, she provided me with the name and address of an attorney who she says represents her. I contacted the attorney at the number provided, only to find that this law firm, with multiple offices in multiple states does not know Donna or Eagle Recruiting and there is no such attorney. Furthermore, there is no attorney by the name provided listed with the State of Tennessee, or any other state, except for a Corporate attorney in New Jersey who has never practiced anywhere else.Donna makes harassing phone calls multiple times a day, usually hanging up. The caller ID shows the calls come from Donna Zhao in Salinas California and other calls from other phones.I have turned this matter over to local Law Enforcement and multiple other agencies, both State and Federal. There will be no further responses from our firm regarding this matter, rather to allow the authorities to do their job. …

Topic: We need your help to move our business forward...
than others. Currently with limited pooling of resource from day to day recruitment activity. As General Manager of the existing network and looking at our planned expansion, I am exploring the best of breed solutions for data mining, CRM, CV and job order parsing etc – complete solutions for bringing our technology inline with current offerings which will increase productivity, efficiency and subsequent improvement of consultant billings either directly or via inter office referrals (IORs). A package that we would endorse for new recruitment franchisees to take on board….. I am open to look at solutions to be implemented in each individual office, for a centralised offering to be “shared” by all, and/or hosted application. The door really is open as long as we find the best the recruitment industry is currently offering. I am looking for guidance. Who in the market currently provides a solution to our needs?…

eptable so you are all set there. I would explain the situation by saying you keep all candidate information confidential until you have a contract, but you can tell him that this is (or is not) a relo situation and give an idea of how big a deal the relo will be. You're offering a little info (like it's not a super long move and shouldn't be a costly relo) but also letting him know where your line is drawn. If he is unwilling to give you the contract, you need to be able to professionally accept that and walk away, letting him know that you'd love to talk if anything changes. If the desire for the candidate is strong enough he'll accept that or come back to you shortly. If not, you have made a solid contact and things will probably work out on a subsequent contact down the line. TK…

t announcing "recovery" it will be well past. Most of the time, the numbers begin to reflect before people actually believe what is happening. This time more so than most. I do not believe we will see the explosive growth or about face that has been characteristic of the past recessions and subsequent recoveries. Modest gains and supplemental growth will be the underlying elements during this recovery. Though most will complain, I enjoy the passive growth that continues for years and does not exude the over spending and gluttony associated with the past 20 yrs. Your post ties in the basics that our economy is moving forward but in a tempered mood and state. All fine, but do not quit your job and try to land the next thing just yet. Remain calm, stay sturdy and keep your eyes open for the right position. Not just any one.…
