Comment on: Blog Post 'Where do you stand on the visa issue?': nding of this issue against them. I can remember how his followers cheered each and every time he repeated this statement. What was even more ironic was how Romeny attempted to explain the differenc only to quickly retreat knowing he was never going to be able to expalin through the media. So, do I think this was not going to happen dispite who won? No, US high-tech workers were laid off a few years before in anticipation of this move to in source. This would mean that employers along with lobbyist and the federal government conspired to do this against the best interst of the US citizen and in fovor or big business. I will leave that to yoru own imagination. Here are some facts to help you wonder: 1. Big business outsourced high tech jobs that were once held by US citizens and pulled us out of a recession when Bill Clinton took office. 2. Company balance sheets never looked better until over seas workers demanded higher pay and better workiing conditions. This combined with Americans putting presure on lawmakers to bring back jobs due to too many lay-offs. 3. High-tech employees were laid off by employers who turned right around and applied for visas. At the same time they re-posted these jobs and turned down thoese who were more than qualified in order to meet the requireemnts of not being able to find skilled help.They use those turn-downs (truthful on not) to justify to imigration the need for visa status workers. 4. These visa holders are then allowed to come here and take the jobs of those who were laid-off without honest justification at pay scales far below that of American workers. 5. They know many would fight this so they hide it in an immigranion bill that looks like it is doing exactally what the American people asked for. Where is the ASA when it comes to helping the average staffing and recruiting agency? My thought is they are busy spending the money of those they really work for, the mega-agencies who are in bed with the mega-high techs of the world. Is there a website that lists "recruiter's ruse" tips and tricks that I can use to dial into a company to trick the front desk into letting me speak to "the development lead"? Thanks! ~Stuart "I have listened to the "to ruse or not to ruse" argument several times and always find it interesting. Whether you like it or not, Researchers/Sourcers ruse. If you are using the telephone for research, you are rusing. Unless you are calling into the "gatekeeper" saying, Hi, my name is John Smith (no relation to Paul of course). I'm a Researcher/Sourcer working for one of your main competitors and I'm trying to get the name of your top sales people or top engineers (or whatever position you are trying to fill) you are rusing! You are not being 100% truthful. What would happen if you stated the REAL reason you were calling? The "Gatekeeper" would hang up on you. Just because you are NOT making up a story, doesn't mean you are not rusing. By eliminating information from the Gatekeeper you are creating a ruse. The definition of the word ruse is: an action or plan which is intended to deceive someone. By calling into a company for the purpose of finding employee names and titles and NOT revealing this fact when you first call into the Gatekeeper is an attempt to deceive. To deceive is to ruse. So, unless you are telling every Gatekeeper or person on the other end of the phone that you are a Researcher or Sourcer and are looking for the names of their employees for the recruiting team or for their competitors, you are rusing." ~ Barb Huh? Topic: Why I Love Recruiting: out people. My clients are people, my talent are people, my employees are people and my services and solutions are all people focussed. People are intriguing, frustrating, passionate, annoying, fun, boring, clever, dumb, irrational, rational, strong, weak, single minded, pliable, emotional, passive, dominant, detailed, sloppy, fearful, fearless, intuitive, blind (not in seeing sense), knowledgeable, well read, narrow minded, interesting, aggressive, friendly, desperate, cynical, angry, happy, caring, selfish…and the list goes on. I am responsible and accountable for making sure that within this mix I introduce the right people to each other, keep them interested as they ‘date’, manage all the delicacies of their individualisms and the process they go through and then make sure they are happy thereafter. Now to do that well is a challenge. Its varied. It’s a journey and it has its ups and downs, highs and lows. No other job I can think of would deal with people in such a concentrated way. BUSINESS: There is nothing that fascinates me more than Business, other than People. I get to see and listen to businesses and the people that make them every day. I get to learn about what works, what doesn’t, whats new, whats old, issues, solutions and everything in between. I get to see them grow and develop and become all they can become. I privy to insights and inside thoughts from the grad to the CEO. I am responsible for listening so I truly understand them and the people in them. I then get to introduce people into them and watch them all grow. Both the above can be thankless, painful, political and difficult but it is satisfying in ways I cannot begin to describe (you really have to live it) when it all works. I love recruitment because I love people and their differences and businesses and their challenges. I love recruitment because it pays me to be involved with people in one of the most important aspects of their lives, their careers. I get paid (well!) to do what I love.
