Pericles was a former General of the Greek Army who later became the famous Greek ...politician and visionary leader who ruled during Greece's Golden Age. Pericles is considered the greatest Greek Statesman of his time which was during the "Golden Age of Greece" and is also referred to as the "Age of Pericles".

I was honored to receive the prestigious Pericles Achievement Award from the Employment Management Association (EMA) which is now part of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) representing Talent Acquisition Managers from large, medium and small companies throughout the country.  The 1989 Pericles Achievement Award inscription read:  For Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Human Resources to Valentino Martinez – “… SERVICE COMMITTED NOT TO THE FEW BUT TO THE WHOLE OF BODY OF THE PEOPLE.”   Oration of Pericles 431 BC.  Within SHRM the EMA has been renamed Staffing Manager Association (SMA).

Interestingly, I was not a member of EMA when I was selected--which seems to say I was selected based on performance and overall positive impact over and above all other peers in contention for the award, across all industries from throughout the country.  I mention this as kudos to EMA because most professional and technical organizations typically give such prestigious awards only to its membership.

I was/am humbled by the experience and thanked others, particularly members of my internal team.  I also thanked the Bernard Hodes Advertising Company’s dedicated Rockwell team for their contribution to our successes in recruiting an average of 5000 technical, engineering, manufacturing, production and business professionals, per year for three consecutive years within an extremely competitive defense industry—a feat which was unheard of in any industry for a single division at that time.
