I Became My Own Client

A short life

Third party recruiters don't last long. I have hired and trained enough people to know what I am up against when hiring a new recruiter. One out of 10 new recruiters will make it past one year. Many don't pass the 90 day mark.

It's a tough business. The recruiter is lied to by everyone, strung along by both client and candidate,…

How to Destroy Your Career Without Trying

I am not creative enough to make this stuff up.

Here's the scenario:

Sarah is currently making $68,000 and not in a management position. She started interviewing because she wants management, opportunity, and a different company culture.   Her company is large and structured in a way that limits her opportunities at the local level. She doesn't see herself going corporate, but currently reports to corporate, and is not happy with the reporting structure.

Our…

Headhunting is a Dialect

One side of my family is from Montreal. They are proud French Canadians through and through. Some of my cousins don't speak English.

My old Aunt was a nun. English was her second language. Traveling through France, she quickly found out that the French felt that her French, the Canadian French, was in some way inferior, it wasn't 'French'.

And yes, the kind old…

Hi Barb, thanks for coming on The Recruiting Animal Show. I had a good time except for that terrible problem with the sound in the middle of the show. It turned out that once cell phone was causing it. I should have systematically gone through every number. There were 15 people on the line and it would have been tedious but in the end we were off a long time anyway. If you search @animal on Twitter you can see the comments. And the recording is already up tho I will put an edited version on my blog to take out that bad part.

Wed Dec 4 NOON EST - make sure that you listen to at least bits of old shows. People will challenge you bluntly and there might be shouting and you have to enjoy that kind of hard play if you are going to enjoy being a guest

It was great to chat with you today. Are you on twitter? I'd be interested in staying connected and up to date on the topic of helping employers behave better with recruiters. I'd also be intersted in any forums or sites that you think host good discussions on that topic
