Recruiting: Is it Sales or Purchasing?

So may people think recruiting is sales. And to a point it is - selling the candidate on the company and the company on the candidate -  however a recruiter should be a purchaser of long term relationships and company investments.

If you are looking to hire: hire an external recruiter on retainer or an internal recruiter on salary.

Hire someone who has once been laid off!

Candidates who have once been laid off (especially recent lay offs) are hungry, appreciative and understand that "It Can Happen To Me". They become loyal!

In my experience, these employees understand that a business will make hard decisions and the employee's who are the most productive, job focused and drama free have a better chance of keeping their jobs than others.
