Countering the Counter Offer

Have you ever sourced the Best Candidate; sold them on the opportunity with your company or client; worked with them through the interview process, answering their questions; helped the hiring manager determine the best compensation package; extend the offer that they accepted; and then lost the candidate to a counter offer?  If you have been in the recruitment business for any amount of time, you have experienced that sinking feeling when they stop returning your calls.

When…

Your Integrity, Your Reputation and the Ability to Succeed in HR & Recruitment

People who know me know how important integrity is to me.   People close to me within my network definitely think I take too hard of a stance on others who have let me down through their actions and subsequent lack of integrity.  I am a very trusting person and want to always be able to take people at their word.  But once a person fails to live up to their word I have a very difficult time looking beyond that experience and continuing our professional or personal relationship.  It's…

Persistence and Perseverance.

Lipton Fleming work closely with a charity called Eaves and last week we spent a couple of hours with them discussing how dreams can become a reality with a few of the right steps.  These are people who have suffered physical, mental and emotional abuse and are trying to rebuild their lives for a brighter future.  Women who have been trapped in violent relationships, some even trafficked.

Life throws us a curve ball and the course of our lives can change cataclysmically. It could be a…

Visual Stimulated Resumes (VSR), HMM well VizualizeMe!!

Visual Stimulated Resumes (VSR), HMM well VizualizeMe!!

Well it had to happen, we all know we are visual people we like to see things. We like to be excited by what we see. Let’s get real though a resume usually is not that exciting. It is usual fairly mundane and after reviewing 100s it can get old. So well now comes Vizualize.me a site that takes your profile, your resume and makes it into more of a Visual Stimulated…

RPOs - A Cancer on Recruiting

Harsh? Perhaps. But let me explain. One, if I just titled it RPOs, no one would read it, and I am too narcissistic to allow that to happen. And 2 (or B for those who prefer diversity), I truly believe that the RPO business model is antithetical to professional recruiting. For those of you who may not be aware of what an RPO is, let me explain, or cut and paste from Wikipedia, whichever you prefer:

Recruitment Process Outsourcing is a form of…

State of The Union and Other Things

Tonight we get the State of The Union.  I don’t care about the speech or the politics.  I do care about the actual state of the country. Here’s how I see the state of the union and a couple of other things.

State of the Union (Country) – Mature and overburdened with debt and a bloated political system.

State of the Economy (Business Conditions) – Pretty good, at least for the time being.  Recovered from the bubble burst and moving…

How to Convince Candidates to Be Paid on W-2

For various reasons, some workers prefer to be paid on 1099 instead of a W-2.  But it's not worker's decision.  The IRS guidelines determine whether a worker is classified as a 1099 independent contractor or a W-2 employee.

Still, recruiters and their clients often get push back when trying to convince…

You Accepted the Position – Beware of the Counter Offer

Expert Recruitment Consultant Discusses the Dangers of Accepting a Counter Offer

33,000 Career Experts Can’t Be Wrong(?)

I got an email the other day making the claim that “33,000 recruiters can’t be wrong.” The email wanted me to buy whatever it was that the company was selling (OK, the email didn’t want that. Emails are inanimate objects and don’t actually want anything. But I digress.) The first thought that popped into my head was “just how many recruiters are…

Recruiters: Have you ever been fired by a candidate even though they have accepted the position you worked hard to obtain for them? It happened to me today!

Long story but apparently this individual has asked our client that we do not contact him anymore as he felt too "pressured". However he has accepted the role that we introduced to him and did some very creative "out of the box" thinking in order to help him with his main motivating factor for changing jobs which was to reduce his travel time away from a young family. We were successful in cutting it down from traveling 2 weeks a month to a 3 hour different time zone to never (unless he…

A simple but effective recruitment auto-response

I was emailing a prospect the other day when I got their auto-responder email they send to candidates. It immediately caught my eye as a simple but effective message. I like the casual tone it sets for potential candidates and and how they encourage you to like them on social media. The flickr account is a nice touch. Every employer should showcase their offices with photos.

So you want…

Employees = Your Best Brand Ambassadors

It’s no secret in recruiting, referrals are a major source of quality hires.  And key to referrals are your employees.  While many organizations understand they need to get their employees better involved in their recruitment marketing process, the question is how to do it.

When getting started, you need to understand a few things.  First, understand what your main goal is.  Not only should…

What If It Mattered How We Treat Candidates

Economic challenges are allowing organizations to dodge bullets when it comes to the candidate experience.  But times are changing.  As key talent becomes more difficult to recruit, then brand and reputation matter.  And the candidate experience becomes a more significant influence on those key indicators.

In the BtoB (business to business) world, it…
