I’m not a tree hugger, well I am, but not in the ‘protest and chain myself to a bark for the day’ type of tree hugger. However I do believe in karma of sorts. Allow me to take recruitment down the spiritual path for a sentence or two.
So we are all connected, from the small ant to the great white. Indeed someone told me once that if it weren’t for ants, the human race would not exist (something about the biological ecosystem community, I have no idea, and haven’t got round to… Continue

It's funny to think that nowadays we can rent a little space in a virtual world and plant a stake in the ground and call it our own. Some people will come by for a visit to take a look around and others set up camp right beside you. I'm going to be setting up shop in order to make friends and create a space where people can drop by to read and chat about staffing, technology and well...staffing technology.

People tend to look at me with disbelief when I tell them that if it weren’t for Twitter, and more specifically the advent of social media, I would never have garnered a career in the field that I am interested in as soon as I graduated from college.
I began accessing Twitter through an iPhone application that locates other users in close proximity to you and shows you their tweets. This was important because it allowed me to connect with people in the area and discuss relevant topics.… Continue
For me, social networking is part of my job. Its a portion of how I brand our business. Its a way to cultivate relationships with partners, clients and influencers. Its how I keep up to date on what other vendors are doing.
It’s also been instrumental in my conversion of my blog from ERE to ImSoCorporate.com this fall. It has been through RT’s on twitter and networkedblogs.com on facebook – that I have met some really smart, interesting people.
I’ve been reading some excellent forecasts for trends and developments in 2010 that certainly excite and encourage me to think that this could be a very interesting and challenging year. I’m too much of a social media and technology amateur though to try my own predictions!
I do know, however, that recruiters will need a whole different set of skills, goals and targets if they are to succeed and profit from all the predicted advancements and developments.
There is something said for Mindless Optimism. I heard the term a few weeks ago. I think it came from an Op Ed in the Wall Street Journal in which someone was asked at a party how they were approaching 2010. The answer was with Mindless Optimism. What a great thought for today. Coming off of the last year or two, mindlessness feels pretty good, and optimism is always good.
But I see more wisdom in the term than that. I think mindless optimism gives us the freedom to focus on what we… Continue
Guess what? You’re to blame for the weak hires over the last year. It’s so your fault! You have been here all year and with a zero candidate pipeline. Z-E-R-O!
Where is the recruiting strategy you promised? Why didn’t we hire any “Rock Star” candidates that were laid off? What happened to the process, the database, and the improved time to fill? Bro, where is the Beef?
Okay, stop. Rewind to January 2009.
Half the recruiting team was let go and the work load… Continue
There are few things more daunting than attending a job interview. That's why it's good to prepare by considering some of the questions you might be asked. Just make sure you don't end up giving any of these answers....
Interviewer: What is your greatest accomplishment?
Interviewee: Finishing Phantom Mutant Death Fighter 3 for PC - and in work time too! Have you played it?
Interviewer: Could you sell me this pen?
Interviewee (shouting): Get your pens, only… Continue
OK maybe it's just a great excuse to play a U2 song. I had this idea about a post the other day, but let the idea fall from my head, with the amount of noise happening in my life at the moment. However, as fate would have it, I had to run (OK drive) up to the shops tonight for some milk, and guess what came on the radio? Tick! This song.
What does this have to do with what I normally blog about? Recruiting.
I'd like to think yes, but after viewing the most recent December Job Report, I'm not quite so sure. In the United States we had 85,000 new people file for unemployment benefits this last month. My concern for the economy and our reported… Continue
Can you succeed in "the great recession" without engaged employees? Maybe, but only if your competitors' employees aren't engaged either. Engaged employees' willingness to give their all is what unlocks the greatest potential for competitive advantage. It's their attitudes and actions that make the critical difference, especially to your customers. The small percentage of companies that consistently delivers an exceptional customer experience will create a wide gap with competitors-those whose… Continue
Even Americans who are lucky enough to have work in this economy are becoming more unhappy with their jobs, according to a new survey that found only 45 percent of Americans are satisfied with their… Continue
I've been working on my plan for 2010 and thinking about things like Training, Activity Levels, Goals, Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Time Management, which Conferences to attend, etc... Like most of you I try to start off a new year year with all the best intentions and try to have a fast start.
Trying is one thing but results are another, so here is a list of a few things that have helped me and my team.

With the new found optimism for 2010 and a promising economic forecast, are you contemplating whether this is the right time for a career change? Is now the time to jump ship for a better opportunity?
Amidst restructuring and countless layoffs in 2009, employees were thankful to be working. Disengaged and unsatisfied, employees were more likely to suck it up if they felt taken advantage in their position. Employees had no choice but to pick up the slack, quite often taking on a… Continue
As I continue along in my job search for an IT Staffing Recruiter position, I'm becoming more and more keen on the benefits of using Twitter.
Sure, plenty of people use Twitter in less-than-optimal ways, sharing the minutia of their daily lives to anyone who will listen. But I'm not talking about that kind of tweeting. I'm talking about a genius yet easy-to-use tool that can and should enhance any job search if used correctly.
First and foremost, Twitter is about giving… Continue
It’s never a good idea to upset your customers. So why would a job board allow a so-called ‘fake’ job posting – a job listing that, in fact, does not currently exist?
1. Maybe the job board didn’t know it was fake. After all, dozens or even hundreds of jobs are posted at many sites each week – by employers, not the job board.
2. The ‘paying’ customer posted that ‘fake’ listing. Money speaks.
3. ‘Fake’ postings are almost impossible to screen.
I just love websites that are well designed. In my earlier days I worked as an Information Architect for companies like Digitas. And I've designed all the sites that fall under my company umbrella as the CEO of AllCountyJobs.com. So I think I have a little credibility when it comes to recognizing good web design.
Recently one of my podcast service companies,… Continue
The last decade has, in my opinion, seen one of the biggest seed changes the recruitment industry has seen for many years. While I am referring to social media, I also combine that with the evolution (it took it's time but now has real momentum) that has been online recruitment.
