Warehousing Job-Seekers

I was shopping at a wholesale warehouse this weekend and it got me to thinking about how the warehouse shopping mentality has grown exponentially in the past few years.

And it’s a good thing. If you are aware of your prices going in, you stand to save some significant dollars. I have to remember to bring my focus along with my list as it is easy to lose concentration and give myself over to the massive goodies these places often hold.

The same holds true for the search for…

It's The Headhunter Fee, Stupid!

Employers seldom complain about the services of headhunters, it’s the headhunters’ fee that has become their pain point.

A few months ago I was a presenting at a seminar to about 35 business owners and HR professionals.  The topic of the presentation was “How to Recruit like a Headhunter” and during the presentation I made the statement “if you are not using headhunters as your primary recruitment weapon, then you are not hiring the best talent in-the-market”…

10 tips to avoid "CLM's"- Career Limiting Moves

It was 1997 and I was working at a staffing agency.  We were celebrating the year end and we were headed to the dog tracks in Selma, Texas on a chartered bus.  There was alcohol, and everybody was getting loud and crazy.  We had had a long year and two recruiters had just been promoted to account managers.  Everybody was giving the recently promoted high fives and…

How Obamacare Could Increase the Demand for Healthcare Contractors

While employers across the nation are grumbling about healthcare reform, you may just end up rejoicing if you are working the healthcare niche.

A recent Staffing Industry Analysts report predicts that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), better known as…

Artist, Leader or Entrepreneur?

I recently attended the #TonyRobbins Business Mastery course at the Excel in London.  It consisted of 4 days packed with information, tools and techniques on building and growing a business that is continually innovating and performing at its peak, and the best ways to create an exit plan for yourself; be this through creating a leadership team that will enable you to step away from the day to day running of the business, or the…

Knock, knock, who's there... candidate knocking em dead or knocking self out of consideration?

While a best-selling author with a history of 35 years in career management is clearly not an easy target for critique, I feel I must call out the obvious negative reaction this blog’s advice could bring if followed. From what I gather, the intent of this information is to aid experienced job applicants in addressing presumed ageist perceptions or alleged age-bias in interviews.

However, it appears to be coming from a very misguided and perhaps out-of-touch with a real life…

5 Reasons Candidates Want Recruiters Using Social Media

One of our clients was reading through our social recruiting blogs this month, which lead to a discussion on the topic during a check in call. We went back and forth on the benefits and best practices for recruiters, and then spent some time talking about why candidates are in favor of companies using social media for recruiting.  While it might be obvious, some things just need to be said.

Here are the top 5 reasons candidates want recruiters on social media:

1. Easy…

By Russell Adams - Director, AdMore Recruitment

Tradition suggests that January is one of the best and busiest times to start your job search and looking at my phone log and inbox this week, that certainly appears to be the case.  But is January,…

Embracing Social Recruiting

I have been talking to a lot of recruiters over the past few months and I have been surprised to discover how many have still not embraced social networking as part of their recruitment process. In fact, I’m shocked by the number who aren't even considering it. Social…

LinkedIN says: “Our Solution isn’t for You.”

Recently, I received a call from the top notch sales team at LinkedIn with an “amazing offer.”  They wanted to share with me a special tool that was only offered to Corporate Recruiters.  They further explained that it was being offered to “select third party recruiters.”  Hitting all the right buttons a sales person should, I of course jumped at the chance to hear about this silver bullet and booked an appointment.

Like a kid waiting for a new toy, I imagined all the things…

99% of Recruiters On LinkedIn Don’t Use It…

... and yet it is a powerful sourcing tool, and it is free to use. (For the basic account it is also free, but you need to know your ways around to view the results. I will explain below.)

I am talking about the LinkedIn Signal. Even if you have the topmost account and all the power of people searching available to you, the Signal is an excellent addition with complementary ways to source. Namely, the…

A Quest For 1,000 Twitter Followers

Twitter.  I have to admit, I never thought I would be a big tweeter.  Until early in 2012, I didn't understand how it worked.  A bit embarrased to admit this, but I know I am not alone.  I had no idea what a hashtag was, and didn't know how to follow people or how to be followed.  Mentions?  Are you kidding me?  What did that…

Everyone who is anyone is offering their predictions for what the biggest trends in recruiting and hiring will be in 2013, so we figured we might as well throw our hat in the ring.  Based on what we have read and discussions we have had with recruiters over the past year, here are our predictions for 2013:

The eternal truths of online recruiting

Maybe it come from having been in the industry for a while, but some things just keep recurring: Bill Warren, John Sumser, Joel Cheesman, and job matching sites, to name a few. Seriously, though – although much has changed since the mid 90s, some things really haven’t. Ignore them at your own peril. For instance:

  • Resumes rule: Despite repeated attempts to kill, eliminate, or otherwise obliterate them, resumes continue to be the…

Corporate ADD (Attention Divided Dilemma)

In walked a father and his two young sons, dressed formally for a boys night out in Paris on New Year’s Eve. You could see the sense of pride in the eyes of the youths, most likely eight and twelve years of age, as they took in the linen covered tables and plates filled with lobster, Dover sole, and braised short ribs. As they settled in for their evening together, the three appeared happy to be together as they excitedly placed their orders.

Just 30 minutes later, the youngest was…
