After a fairly lengthy period of incremental and erratic technical growth, the industry is seeing lots of change – and I suspect that those sites that ignore these changes may suffer.

So, which technologies (and technology trends) are changing job…

What Message is Your Sales Strategy Sending?

Nancy, a current member of my coaching program, shared with me the following success story…

“I called on a new prospect for a number of weeks. Each time, I got his voicemail and left him the Front-of-the-Box message you taught me. Within two months, he called me back to give me an order. He said he picked me because I had called him six times (WOW, he counted the number of messages I left!). And he said that he appreciated my follow-through and that this made him hopeful that I’d be… Continue

I Am Still a PC

Friday was my last day at Microsoft. I was afforded a great opportunity to create and impact recruiting; an outcome that I did not anticipate when I joined the company five years ago. It was a humbling experience working with the best and the brightest; I was amazed by my colleagues. Amazed, not by just how smart everyone is; but by the quality of human beings they are and the values that are shared. We did some great work together that changed the face of recruiting not only at Microsoft…

Do I really need to use a professional resume writer?

People look at me strangely when they ask, “Do I really need to use a professional resume writer?”

“Come on,” they say, “I can easily just write my own resume – what are you going to do that I cannot just do myself?”

Of course it’s true that anybody can write their own resume. The same is true that anyone can attempt to build a house or change the plumbing or paint some artwork, however in each of these examples you’d prefer to call on an expert because of…

You’ve asked all of them on your mind. The questions. Those incomplete thoughts or flashes of brilliance that you feel needs some sort of vindication that your opinion is valid. Those things burrowing into the dark places of the mind that prevent you from moving on rationally. What if I appear ridiculous? What if my lack of knowledge shows through? Am I that much of a know-it-all?, I know we covered this topic 1000 times, yet for some reason I just don’t understand. These are all thoughts…

Using Contractors to Help Clients Complete Projects

In a recent blog post, we reported on an article by The Kansas City Star that discussed the trend of hiring workers on a contract basis to complete projects, a practice the article referred to as "adhocracy."  As many of the recruiters we work with can attest, this trend is very real. Or is there?  Several of the recruiters we work with have discovered another word that can immediately melt the ice on a deep hiring freeze . . .contracting!  In fact, for many, hiring freezes lead them to their first contract placements.

Hiring managers are…
