I've been researching social media for my recruitment team. Last year we implemented an ats (Taleo) and now that we have such an awesome tool I think our recruiters are ready and eager to jump into the world of recruitment technology.
I am our Taleo System Administrator so it seemed like a natural project for me to accept - with the help of my good friend and colleague.
We've been exploring tools that both of us use for personal reasons (Myspace, Facebook, Bloggings) and… Continue

As with negotiating salaries, negotiating a raise also requires preparation and organization of how you are going to go about it.
Find out about the company policy
Different companies have different policies regarding salary increments depending on the amount and the time of the year. Do your homework and be well prepared for the interview.

We're all reading about massive layoffs and cost cutting measures but are companies really getting it right? I don't think so. It seems that HR Leadership (oxymoron?) is still making the "easy" decision regarding their talent inventory, that being Last In First Out (LIFO). Severance packages will be less and they don't have to deal with uncomfortable dismissal discussions with tenured employees. This is very short sighted and while they can stand up in front of their executive team and say "we… Continue

I'm really looking forward to seeing how things evolve with Splits.org and Twitter along with other aspects that may tie in with them. As an interested observer who does a lot of splits, I think the idea and effort behind this so far is innovative and has a ton of potential. For me, splits have always been a relationship thing. You connect with someone and work together a little bit and as the trust and comfort level strengthens you are able to do business together profitably. On the other… Continue

From somewhere on the Internet, I saw these questions; I think they hold potential:
Which of the "Facts of Life" girls are you most like?
If you were a deodorant, would you be a roll-on, stick, or spray?
Do you prefer Emanuel Lewis or Gary Coleman?
Would you rather have ebola or smallpox?
Would you rather have bamboo shoved under your nails, Chinese water torture, or your ankles chewed off by a pack of wild dogs?
If you were a… Continue

Salary discussions with a prospective employer are at best uncomfortable, so I am going to talk about how to maintain the advantage in these interactions. Since this is fairly complex, I am breaking this into 2 posts. One to discuss how to prepare, and the other to help you through the actual discussion.
Ken from Massachusetts asks how to respond when an potential employer asks what compensation he is looking for. He was thinking his default would… Continue

I have been a recruiter now for almost 10 years now. I started out in a hiring manager role and then moved into general IT staffing. From there I moved into more of a niche field of recruiting. In my years I have always maintained a certain "method to my madness". This method consisted of sourcing candidates, qualifying them and placing them into what I would consider is my pipeline. These were always people that I have placed on positions and people that I WANT to place on positions. This… Continue

There is very little in the world of recruiting that is more disheartening or frustrating than having an offer declined. After all the work that was done to source the candidate, sell them to the customer, arrange interviews, and negotiate an offer, the whole deal falls through and you're back to zero. It stings, most notably in the wallet area for my compatriots on the independent/agency side. As a result, developing a method to boost offer acceptance is key for any recruiter.

So today, it turns out, is one of those days where things just fall into place. A day where birds chirped as I woke, interview feedback was great, fabulous news came for a long time candidate (an offer 2 years in the making) and to top it off I logged on to RBC to find a lovely spotlight piece by Rayanne for Bonus Track
that made me blush.
I even got a chance to catch some snippets of the… Continue

We’ve all heard the stories and realize the importance of building your online brand and presence. I think a fair question would be how do you measure what this really does for your career and your job search? If you are looking at this from a business point of view, you may wonder what is the ROI, or more accurately, ROTI (Return on Time Invested) in building that online presence. Why do it?
For clarification, I’m not talking about your XBox 360, WoW or PS3 presence. I’m talking… Continue

Every time I’ve had an interview, I’ve taken my earring out of my ear. The last interview I had, I wanted to leave the earring in but after speaking with my wife, I decided it was best to remove it. I guess I was concerned and a bit apprehensive about the image it would convey. But the question is, should I have been? Should we be so worried that we remove an earring or hide a tattoo before an interview?
Given the tough market that you face, I would propose that you as a job seeker… Continue
