Web Madness Tournament - Which Company is the Hottest to work for in 2009

March Madness has hit the entire country and although there is the BIG Dance, there are many other dances taking place these days including one within our very own web/software marketplace. Working in the high profile world of web companies, we’re seeing the market swing on a quarterly basis with last years high-fliers beginning to plateau (Slide, Yelp, Ning), landmark companies going radio silent (Microsoft, Google) and new Cinderellas emerging on a daily basis (too many to mention - call us… Continue

Chimps and Dartboards

Let's face it, people love to be in control. Not only that, but we like to think we have control over (or at least a handle on) things that are completely and totally unpredictable. Take, for example, the stock market. There are plenty of people who are supposed to be experts, yet it has been proven that even the experts don't get it right all of the time.

A Swedish newspaper gave $1,250 each to five stock analysts and a chimpanzee named Ola, to test who could make the most money… Continue

Keep your contacts fresh, Keep your value High

I while ago I was interviewing a Sr. Sales VP from one of the biggest consulting companies in the world. He had built a top notch sales department during a 20+ yr run with the company, and was let go as a cost cutting measure because his salary and comissions were now looking like a large overhead expense to the accounting department, not evidence of the value he was providing to his company.

During the interview I was trying to find the angle to use in marketing this talented sales… Continue

ABL (Asset Based Lending) and why a staffing company should stay away from the stuff……..

Recently, I’ve came across a few deals where my prospect has an asset based deal in place in order to fund the operations of their company. Simply put, asset based lending is a lending relationship where the lending is secured by the asset of a company. In my industry (staffing) the asset is often the company’s account receivable but can include the building the company operates out of (if they own it) and/or office equipment (again if they own it). However, if the staffing agency’s AR looks a… Continue

When the going gets tough...

Someone posed a question on the bulletin board a bit ago... and my comment turned into a blog.

Subject: "6 months and no placments..no nothing...what's going on?"

Post:

Well folks it's been 6 long months since I opened the door to my nice new office here in Orlando, FL and well...I see it coming to a close right before my eyes. With thousands and thousands gone for websites, rent and supplies here I am humbled.

There was a time when…

Pharmaceutical Recruitment

How would you like to get 'the inside information' on how to be successfully recruited with the Pharmaceutical industry.

Every industry has their own 'system' of recruitment.

Right now around the world the health and pharmaceutical industries are amongst the fastest growing industries. This is due mainly because of the aging "Baby Boomer" population who make up more than 1/3 of the world population.

To find out how to access this 'inside information' to go… Continue

The "Real Story" in Employer Branding

With the wealth of information provided via the internet coupled with the advent of social media, an organization can no longer attempt to paint a picture of itself in the marketplace and trust this alone to shape people’s perceptions. There are countless sources available to someone wanting to know the “real story.”

That “real story” is paramount in employer branding.

Consider this recent experience:

Last week, I discovered a great new startup, the kind of… Continue

The Client Side - March Madness - Survive and Advance

I live in Chapel Hill North Carolina. Down here we know that God is a Tarheel fan and that's why he made the sky Carolina Blue. Many years (this year included and unfortunately last year as well) we don't hope for a National Championship, we expect it. So every Heels game in the tournament is a real nervous affair. The famous line for favorites in the tourney is just Survive and Advance. So any way we can get a win and move on is what we're after.

Over the last several months as I've… Continue

Do underdogs even stand a chance?

Right around this time of year I always seem to have a soft spot for the slightly (or severely) disadvantaged. For some reason March Madness is something I can't pass up and I always love a good Cinderella story. Which got me to thinking - there are underdogs everywhere, not just in sports, and in times like these it must be tough to be in the shoes of the little guy.

Clearly recruiting feels the sting of a bad economy, and I'd wager to say it makes things very tough for the 'mom and… Continue
