Charlie's Angels or T-Mobile Recruiting?

I was in Chicago most of this week in training. Since a lot of the team was there we managed to get a picture on the last day (thanks Carrie for bringing your camera!).

After the picture, a guy yelled at me from across the parking lot, saying -

"Hey, it looks like you're making a
Charlie's Angels…

On "Recruiter, re-tool thyself"...

Quote for the Day: Friday, July 27th, 2007

"The solution is that we need to re-engineer the thinking of the recruiters. In my experience many of them believe they have to always

be in control. This has had its' down side it alienates and infuriates

candidates, it drags out the recruitment process which adds costs and

it frustrates the company that is trying to fill a position. Why can't

we make positive changes to this…

The Career News Says "Simple"

Ever since I met a few recruiters, I've looked at some of these e-mails with suspicion. Really? How easy is it? I'd love to know how recruiters feel about e-mails like these ... here are the opening graphs:

"It's simple. To get a job, the people looking to hire someone like you have to know you exist, be aware of your skills and know how to contact you. Well, maybe not so simple. Assuming you have a resume that effectively represents your skills and abilities, then the next logical… Continue

Wanna Play?

I am about the only geek on this blog that raves about the gaming industry. But honestly, how can you ignore a 10 billion dollar industry that is expected to grow to 25 billion in the next five years. Companies are hard pressed to find people who can do the work. Plus, Game Conferences, like the GDC, are shifting a lot of their focus from new game products to careers in gaming. And,Game Conferences are growing… Continue

On educating tomorrows workforce and the poor getting poorer...

Quote for the Day: Thursday, July 26th

"Our education system is driving a massive wedge between the upper and lower classes in America, splitting the middle class between those willing to mortgage their futures to get into the right school district and those who either can’t afford, or think it is imprudent, to take that kind of risk. The fault line that is being created by a lack of corporate recruiting competence is leaving the poor completely behind. They can’t…

Good Recruiting and Job Domain Names Have Value

Lately, I have been keeping the domain name info off the main page here and putting it in the domain name group I set up but I figured this is too good to only share with the 13 people who are members of that group.

I just saw that Resume.com sold for $300k

On internet recruiting and the perspective of time...

Quote for the Day: Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

"Job candidates are being matched with client employers using the Internet.

Five percent of recruiting firms have already joined the Internet, and the number is growing by an amazing 12% per month. Right now, over 500,000 jobs are listed on the Internet...it's easy to miss critical technology changes. These days, the penalty can be a shorter life for your company."…

How I Won SourceCon Challenge #2

So I was excited about SourceCon challenge #2, as it appears I was a close runner-up to Mike Notaro who won Challenge #1 and I was determined to find the answer to the second challenge.

9 AM PST Monday, July 16th, I was awaiting an e-mail with instructions, and nada, so at 9:05 AM I went to the website and lo and behold I was looking at a real…

Seriously?

I have been up to my neck in employee performance reviews for the past two weeks, so needless to say, I am a little behind on all the gossip. But, I just came across the hullaballoo regarding Karen M and the ERE. All I can say is: "Seriously?" I mean, how does something get to that point? Aren't we all professionals? And adults? I am just sitting here with a blank stare on my face right now. Seriously?

To read more of the bizzaro world…

On HR and Staffing MIA or AWOL...

Quote for the Day: Tuesday, July 24, 2007

"If talent acquisition is to be the linchpin for how HR finds, develops and retains employees that drive their firm’s performance, then Staffing is truly the lead element in the war for talent and, for most, it is unequipped to do its job, poorly trained to operate as a team and poorly organized for the mission at hand."
