5 Effective Steps for Easy Onboarding

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with over 40 corporate recruiters from more than 30 companies that are Fortune 500, 100, and privately held. Some of the top recruiting forces in the nation, possibly the world, participated in conversation around the topics of hiring trends, employer branding, and onboarding, to name a few. Each company approached onboarding a… Continue

Sprinter vs. Marathoner; Who do we choose for our teams?

Samuel Kamau Wanjiru from Kenya broke the Olympic record during 2008

Summer Olympics with a 2hr 6 min run of the 26 miles while at the same

time Usain Bolt from Jamaica broke both 100m and 200m sprints with 9.69s

and 19.30s. Both Usain and Samuel are phenomenal athletes of their

generation and are revered in their own runs. However, can Usain be

half as good as Samuel in running a marathon race or will Samuel give

Usain a run for his money in short distance runs?… Continue

We don't just hire, we give hope

In addition to my regular job responsibilities I have always loved to collect and analyze various data, trends and facts. Here's one fact that's been driving me crazy for quite a while: with a national unemployment rate stuck above 9% we are still having trouble finding qualified candidates. After hours of research I think I just found a reason for that.

Recently I've been wondering how an average job seeker feels about their job search process, so I posted an online poll asking… Continue

Are You Ready To Be A Sales Manager?

We weren’t all born to lead, just as we weren’t all born to sell. Some of us hide in a corner at the thought of having to deliver a sales pitch. Well the world goes around and around on the strength of all our differences, but there are indeed people who are born to be Sales Managers! Think Tim Shaw, the Demtel guy. What…

Hot Resume Tip…

Times have changed, after all, as Grant Cooper, president of Strategic Resumes Strategic, notes in the Resume Critique Writer software that he authored. “Brief resumes are simply no longer effective in today’s increasingly competitive job market,” he said. “The advice that ‘They only want to see one-page resumes,’ is perhaps the single most outdated and incorrect statement job-seekers hear today.”…

What to do about listing salary requirements?

Some job advertisements ask you to include your desired salary, and if they ask for this, it usually means that you can’t avoid doing so. Listing salary requirements is always tricky because it’s hard to “guess” what the employer will think about your preference. Asking for too much can rule out your chances right away because you might appear unrealistic, but asking for too little can signal a red flag and tell the hiring manager that you don’t value your skills and experience. So the…

FIRING CLIENT

A certain company located in a rural part of Georgia was looking for a senior manager for their call center. The job had been open for nearly a year and the interview process proved to be a revolving door -it seemed no one was 'just right.' This is a cautionary tale of what happens when you fail to qualify a company and their requirement. . You're only as good as the companies you represent, someone once…

The SEO Series: 'What is Search Engine Optimization?'

Where and how a recruiter spends their time is crucial to the success of their business. Too much time in the wrong area can dramatically decrease their billings. Unfortunately, time-wasting activities sneak up on you like a thief in the night. Before you know it, those activities you thought were harmless and helpful turn out to be destructive and detrimental.

Take, for example, website optimization.…
