My Job Makes Me Sick!

From the Washington-Dulles airport, I posted THIS a couple of days ago about Dan Pink's latest book: The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You'll Ever Need.

As soon as I finished the post, I boarded the plan and had an itch to make a few… Continue

Today's bargains can cloud future hiring decisions

Everyone loves a bargain, but when hiring talented professionals it can sometimes come back to bite you as you continue to grow your staff. We recently worked with a client that has experienced just such a problem and the fix is hard to swallow. The client has (with our help) found some very talented professional as they moved from a three to a ten person team. Originally they weren’t able to offer top dollar salaries, but because of the strong growth and current technology they’re jobs were… Continue

Hire the "Right" Employees and Cut the Baggage

Have you ever noticed the only planes you read about in the paper are the ones that

crash?

This is similar to when your company loses a client. Think back on an occasion when a

long-standing client went with a competitor because of one bad experience. You might

have given them 98-percent customer satisfaction, but that 2 percent made the headlines

and grabbed their attention.

How do we avoid such occurrences?

Employ the right staff, that’s… Continue

Kennedy Conference "Takeaway" thoughts... What is the COST of UNFILLED POSITIONS?

One of the speakers today is head of worldwide recruiting for an international company that makes sports apparel and shoes... based in WA...

His talk included a MAJOR takeaway that external and internal recruiters alike would be advised to remember.

The cost of NOT FILLING the position, may be WAY MORE than the cost of using their internal or external recruiters.

Especially in leadership and sales positions, there is a time / revenue / bottom line cost to… Continue

Business in a shifting market......

As a Realtor, I dont have to tell anyone the toils and tribulations of the housing market, it's all over the news and media. I talk with other Realtors that are quitting everyday because the"market" is bad. I say, it's not. A business is what you make it!!! Being a Realtor, just because you have a real estate license, doesnt mean people hunt you down to sell or find them a home for them to buy. This business like any other is what you make it, if you are honest and work hard, it will come. We… Continue

A little help for a friend

Hi All!

I have a friend here in Ohio who is a SQL and Database Manager for the VA for over 11 years. He is looking for some additional income and is looking for some IT work that he can do remotely. I can send his resume to anyone interested, but he is not looking to leave the VA, he is looking for contract work.

Thanks!

How Netfix Keeps Talent

A good little article to perhaps share with clients.

Some key points

PAY LAVISHLY Higher-than-average salaries—and tying bonuses and raises to the market, not a pool—can make stars less likely to bolt. Money is no object in hiring.

LET THEM GO Don't give B performers a middling raise. Give them a decent chunk of cash and show them the door. And don’t surprise them. The laid-off leave with their dignity.…

Wednesday Wisdom: Digital Rusing

Dear Claudia,

I have started to practice flipping and x-raying sites. I am finding some really good stuff out there, but here is my problem: by mining deeply, I am getting to directories and files (especially Excel and Word documents) that are clearly not posted for public access. So my question is, should I be feeling guilty about using this information?

Snooping Around

Dear Snooping,

I love this question, because it shows two things: first,… Continue

Talent Hook?

Hello,

I am considering subscribing to Talent Hook and wonder if any of you would share your experiences with me who have used, or currently use, this tool. Have you found it valuable on an ongoing basis? Any gripes or problems? Is their customer service as good and as accessible as they claim? Are there other similar tools out there that you feel are better or comparable?

Thank you for your input!
