Four Challenges Recruiters Face in Today's Economy

There’s a saying I’ve heard and used over the last several years…

“Making money as a recruiter can be very volatile. When the economy is good, there’s almost nothing better, and when the economy is bad, there’s almost nothing worse.”

I’ve been a recruiter for the last 23 years and have gone through multiple recessions in that time. I’ve been fortunate to begin my career during a recession. It actually taught me how to operate in a difficult environment. I generally… Continue

High Unemployment and Technology: A love story

Their eyes met across the room – he was everything she had been looking for: Organized, Responsive to Candidate Needs, Interactive with Her Hiring Managers, Great at managing the recruiting process – even tracked her metrics. She was everything he had been looking for: Someone to give his product a chance.

The time was 2001 – the location was any company in America that was evaluating software. You see, at that time – the “who are your other clients” question was paramount to getting… Continue

Bigfoot, Tooth Fairy and the Recruiting Magic Bullet

I've been reading and writing a lot of blogs, tweets, articles etc about what we all should be doing in our Recruiting efforts of late, and you know what? I think they are all starting to look alike.

Get ready for a whole new world as the recruitment market recovers

Increasingly it’s becoming clear that a real recovery in recruitment demand is looming over the horizon. In Australia we are seeing little surges of temp demand, and in Asia our job order flow at Aquent is strengthening slowly but surely. Google to Apple: You're a Big Fat Meanie!

Today in Atlanta It’s over 90 degrees and hotter than three hells.

But today in the Silicon Valley, it’s ice cold between Google and Apple.

“OMG! Google and Apple are fighting!” the nerd nation cried out collectively in ASSIC (text messages).

Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google) “resignation” from Apple Apple’s Board of Directors today was not a surprise to most of the technology world. Especially after the Google Voice app being pulled from… Continue

The Client Side - Cash For Clunkers? Seriously? How About Cash For Candidates?

Does anyone really think that Cash for Clunkers is going to help the economy? What a laugh. I happened to be out last week trying to help my mom trade in two cars and buy a better car for her, so I got to see the Cash for Clunkers program first hand and in full swing at as many dealerships as we could handle going to in order to shop her potential trade ins and get a good deal on a new vehicle. No doubt about it, the salespeople at all the dealers we visited were busy because of the program. We… Continue

Don't commit these work place fouls!
