Can you name the major sources of recruiting news?

Recruiting news is scattered across the web. I've been trying to put together a list of the best and most trusted news and blogs that help us all to keep track of whats happening out there. What else am I missing from this list?

I'm specifically looking for the 'news-type sites' that write about the industry.

Analysis Paralysis!!

Analysis Paralysis!!

Over the last few months I have posted numerous posts about staffing matrixes. The main point was to not over analyze or get so caught up in the different stats and matrixes that you forget the who, what , when , how and why of the numbers. Well there is another potential problem with having too many matrixes that…

Tuesday Tip: Customer Service IS Key (From both sides of the Counter) #fail,#nofail

One of the first things that you really should concern yourself with as a new employee is how you provide service to your client. I know this can be seen as a two-way street; as most of us spend numerous hours when we are not working, spending our hard-earned money as consumers. Don't let what you experience become the example of providing service. Set your own bar, and set…

The Issues Lurking in “Time-to-Fill”

Time-to-fill could be a great way to see where there are issues unnecessarily adding time to the time it takes to fill positions. But the traditional way to calculate time-to-fill misses those issues. So, you may be evaluated on a statistic that does not tell the whole story.

Unfortunately, time-to-fill usually consists of only two data points only--when the requisition was approved (or something equivalent) and when the position was filled (offer made, or some…

The Online Candidate Experience: Your first impression counts...

How do you communicate with your candidates? Do you know where they first heard of you, what spurred them to apply for the role or what their first impression was? In the vast communications landscape a candidate’s first sighting could have come from an array of sources. They, themselves, probably couldn’t tell you where their first influencer came from. Because of this companies must ensure they’re on top of their…

Don’t focus too much on the end goal

When you were a kid did you ever play computer games?  Had the obsession to get the top score and put 3 funny (or rude) letters on the leaderboard to commemorate your greatness? (Not that it happens now of course, I'm much more mature)

I can remember the adrenalin of almost getting there, seeing the glory, visualising the gloating to my mates as we all crowded around the big arcade game at the corner shop.  Ahhh Galaga I miss you.

I've been watching my son get his addict on…

How To Increase Referrals from Candidates You Did Not Hire

If you have a candidate that you cannot place, give them a gift they can use. Why? It gives the impression that you care and that can easily translate into more referrals. When I was running a full desk, I gave out an ebook of job search strategies to everyone I met with and encouraged them to pass it on. What happened? A significant increase in referrals. (It works!) All that being said, please consider my (now) free ebook, "How To Find a Job Now (...and never have to look again!) and…

Why Candidates should interview the interviewers

Candidates come in all shapes and sizes. There are passive candidates who are looking for the right opportunity.  There are candidates that have lost their job and been out of work for a while. There are candidates who have recently left their role for one reason or another and are looking for their next opportunity. There are college graduates who are seeking their…

Shooting From the Hip

Gunslingers in the Wild West often lived another day by quickly grabbing their Colt 45′s to put an end to a threat with a bullet. Another type of gun slinging is happening daily across the globe as salespeople shoot from the hip in meetings with prospects and clients, relying on memory alone for the questions used to gather important information. This often leads to poor marksmanship as details are inevitably missed as they focus too much on what they are going to ask next versus hearing…

15 years of War for Talent – do we know who we’re fighting for?

It’s 15 years since McKinsey coined the term ‘the war for talent’. They named a phenomenon that organisations across the world had been experiencing – and the term has reverberated throughout the business world ever since, through booms, busts, upturns and meltdowns.

Having great talent has always been important, of course. Now most organisations see it as critical. But have we been intelligently engaging with talent on all fronts to win this battle for hearts and souls? I don’t think…
