Choose Your Team Talent Wisely

What it Takes to Build the Team of Your Dreams

Have you ever thought you hired the workplace version of John Wayne, only to find out you’ve been duped and ended up with a Woody Allen? Poor hiring decisions are costly mistakes that can range from 150 percent to 300 percent of an employee’s base salary. Financial losses include expenses associated with hiring and training, low employee morale and decreased productivity. Plus, poor hiring choices frequently lead to infraction of client… Continue

When you coming home Dad? I don't know when . . . . but we'll get together then

It’s 11:30 PM on October 1st, 2008. I am at my desk in Raleigh tweaking searches, sending email to group moderators, guys in Germany, linkedIn InMails . . . Why? . . . because I have an exceptionally high priority client in FL that is looking for an SEM/BPS Manager and Project Manager for their team. It’s a very good gig for sure . . . a beautiful campus in sunny Florida, an on-site gym, jogging trails, a private chef, SAP BI accelerator - good stuff. The trouble is it’s a direct hire role with… Continue

Work It, Woooooooorrrrrrkkkkkkkk It!

Have you ever noticed that there are some people who know how to "work" every situation they are in? They always get right to the front of the line, get the best tables at restaurants, find the perfect power suit within ten minutes of walking into a clothing store, and step off gravity-defying roller coasters with nary a hair out of place.

I've observed these people; I am not ONE of them. If I have a choice of two lines at the grocery store, both of them approximately equal in terms… Continue

It wasn't the job interview questions that cost you the job!

If I told you there was a very good way to DECREASE your chances of getting a job in medical sales (laboratory sales, pharmaceutical sales, clinical diagnostics sales, imaging sales, DNA products sales, hospital equipment sales, medical device sales, surgical supplies sales, or any healthcare sales) BY OVER 30%, you’d want to know what it was so you could avoid that at all costs, right? Here it is: it’s your Facebook page. Or your MySpace page, or other social networking site… Continue

October's Scary Challenge... Pass it along...

Jigsaw - SAW So I posted yesterday about how some companies are missing the boat for what is more than likely one of two reasons. (If you want the reasons, hit that article here.) But just like we were taught as children, when we point a finger at someone we subsequently point 3 back at ourselves. (try it!)

Today's article is a challenge to anyone lurking or spectating. The challenge is to those that read blogs, watch… Continue

Cultural Fit

Video Killed the Microsoft stock. NO, I don't mean Stock as in stock market or wall street trading, I mean stock like Microsoft stock photo's. I have been conducting a lot of "brand scans" lately, looking for the best and worst examples of career websites to use in my Employment Branding presentations - and I must say I am amazed that many of the people on these career sites are the same..... Same ethnicity, same clothes, same happy faces, same everything. If companies really believe… Continue

Practical as ever, this week Claudia gives some good advice to a recruiter who is about to open a can of worms. How would you wiggle out of this one: Caught in the Crossfire?

Happy Wednesday! Ami G.

Caught in the Crossfire

Dear Claudia,

I went back to the office to get my car after dinner with friends a few nights ago, and had to use the bathroom. When I came out, I could hear the owner of the firm in a really heated argument with my boss, who was actually getting fired. I left immediately, and don't think they even knew I was there. The next day my boss was at work like nothing was wrong at all. I think the owner is a jerk, and I really like my boss. If he leaves I want to work wherever he goes…

Job board: to make or to buy?

Generally speaking, when it comes to any software solution for Web business, we often ask ourselves: what is the best option? There are so many offers, which one should you choose? Moreover, building an online job board requires much effort today, since the market is heavily competitive. So you, as a site owner, should offer something unique to your online recruitment service users.

You know who never asks this question? Developers who can make there own software. Since we are not… Continue
