When you hear many speakers and practitioners speak about the candidate experience it is typically about how to improve the apply and recruiting process. And this is rightfully so as the apply process can be the cause for most candidates angst with a recruitment marketing organization.
And while this is the right place to start when looking to improve the overall candidate experience, I think that we…

According to ERE.net roughly 30% of all hires come through a referral. A referral pipeline can be easier to build in the early and mid-stages of a company’s growth. People are attracted by the opportunity to get in early and have an impact.
As your company grows, the referral pipeline can be…

As a Talent Acquisition professional, I am acutely aware that career fairs are a beacon of Top Talent. However, the career fair is the “grand finale;” there is a magnitude of preparation required to run a successful exhibit.
First, it is important to identify universities, organizations, or…

Monday 5th October 1998. Can you remember your first day in recruitment? What has been the biggest change you’ve seen or experienced? If you take away the technology we all use today. No LinkedIn, no CV boards to search. No Facebook, twitter or Google. No internet full stop. All you have is your phone and a fax. How long would most recruiters of today survive?
I will never forget my first day, Monday 5th October 1998. Until that day I never actually…

If you pay attention, your body tells you when you are about to get sick. If you watch for the “sniffles” in your business, you can keep your company from getting a “cold.”

All of us Recruiters have been through it-the dreaded MIA candidate. We speak with them, feel we develop a great relationship with them, get an interview set up with them and the client and then *POOF* they disappear. I have never had such an issue until I changed markets. I guess the hustle and bustle of a larger city seems to make people think that Recruiters are evil or not human. I tend to pride myself with finding great candidates and developing relationships with them. But when I do…

For most restaurant owners, it’s difficult to layoff employees in the name of saving money. Many owners do everything they can to try and fix the situation on their own—take a pay cut, work extra hours and hire less, take out loans to help pay the company bills—but sometimes there is nothing a boss can do to help keep things the way they once were. Money is tight, and…

Applying for a job nowadays is a lot easier. Thanks to the Internet, one can just go to a job portal, click an online advertisement and voila! - your resume gets sent quickly. No more classified ads cut-outs from the previous Sunday, no walking to different companies with a dozen copies of your resume at hand, peddling it to whoever will accommodate you without any prior appointment or schedule. Job application is now a breeze.
Okay, that may be an exaggeration. There are still people…

On Friday morning my family once again made the drive to Carrizo Springs, Texas. The weather was perfect. Late November in most of America is at or above freezing, but not in Texas. Highs were around 75-80 degrees, and that made it feel like early spring, not winter.
At around 4:00 P.M., after we arrived in Carrizo, we packed up the Jeep…

In the past couple of weeks we have seen and heard from a number of business owners who have tried to put a price tag on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act cloaked in the argument as to why they have to add costs to their ultimate end users- the customer.
Whether it is the owner of Papa John's Pizza or the franchise owner of Denny's they seem to be forgetting one very important piece of the picture. In each case where would these organizations be if their human capital made…

The relationship between corporate recruiters and candidates has witnessed a shift in the information available to the two parties. The widening use of the Internet, particularly social media, has opened up access to data on both sides, ushering in an age of transparency and a heightened potential of mutual communication. In other words, candidates are now in a better position to take the initiative and interact with organizations. This means that corporate recruiters have to step up…

The fact is you make a placement only if your candidate gets an interview.
So your job as a recruiter is so much more than sourcing the talent and making the match. As important as they are, it’s all a waste of time if you don’t get your candidate sitting opposite your client.
And so you find yourself enthusiastically…

When people talk about HR trends they tend to look at what we do today and discuss ways it can be done better in the future. Applications and tools for recruiting, training, on-boarding, etc. are being developed at dizzying rates. Problem is – these new HR innovations are going to have a short half life.
Another way to look at HR trends is to look at the way business is changing.
The changes in technology, employee motivation, globalism, and resource mobility, just to name a…

How many times have you phoned a client only to be told they’re busy? You then send a quick email, and they reply immediately? Not that busy ay? And how many times have you sent an email ‘without even trying’ to speak to your contact, or sent an email when really you could have spoke to your contact instead?
If you have the time to type, you have the time to talk. Pick up the phone.
OK, I appreciate we are living in a world that is becoming forevermore…

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being with my wife as she watched her beloved alma mater, Ohio State, beat Michigan in their yearly football matchup. While it’s been several decades since Holly sat in the stands cheering on her team as a student, you would’ve thought it was just yesterday as she hooted, hollered, and even dropped a few choice expletives. She is consistently passionate and loyal for everything Ohio State, regardless of whether they win or lose. Collegiate teams, and…
