Insurance is growing

Hey recruiters,

I specialize in insurance, and we are humming along. If you have a pulse (and I'm assuming you have an internet connection since you can see this) you have seen/heard lots of doom & gloom talk out there. I live and specialize in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas area.

This is my best encouraging word for the industry. We are looking for insurance sales and service people alike. There is a lot of action in our immediate geographical area as well as nationwide. I guess… Continue

Best diversity site that shouldn't be called a diversity site

HBCUConnect.com is bar none one of the best affinity sites on the web. I won't add any words of praise outside if you aren't associated with it, you aren't interested in diversity. And if your company isn't a sponsor, you're not spending your dollars wisely.

If you want a contact to discuss opportunities to support the site, contact me through RBC or just rummage around the site and contact Will (CEO) or… Continue

Is Social Media Helping to Accelerate Bridge Burning?

This morning, I ran across a post about Jive Software's RIF. There was a lot of interesting information, so I blogged about it. You can read the blog here. I'm really interested in what the Recruiter World thinks about this. Does your online behavior post-layoff affect you long term?

Dear LinkedIn - Please lern how to spel

I realize one of the keys to life is to ignore the small stuff.....especially the stuff that has absolutely NOTHING to do with you......but I simply can not overlook this!

The sign in page on LinkedIn has the word "address" spelled incorrectly. They've left off the second "s".

There - so now you know.

Meteorologist Moonlights as a Recruiter... And doesn't know it.

I have two cars - one that I'm passionate about (1981 Fiat Spider Turbo - MINT) and a SUV. The Italian love affair only comes out of the garage on special occasions (under 100k miles on original engine) and the SUV is the daily driver. As a result the SUV needed new tires recently and I wanted some time with my youngest daughter - so on Saturday we made a day of it, dropping off the car and sporting our backpacks down the street to grab some ice cream and hang out at the local book… Continue

Are you a namby-pamby sourcer?

When I first started sourcing a dozen or so years ago I remember the namby-pambiness of my sourcing. Afraid to rock the boat, I shied away from asking too many questions of my information sources, afraid I’d hear something that I didn’t want to hear. If I was on a trail I didn’t want that trail to end in a dead-end or even be broken. In the early days, I heard what I wanted to hear!

Soon I came to realize this wasn’t going to cut the… Continue

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

All-

One of my friends of 30+ years, Bob Adler, lost his wife to cancer on April 25, 2007. Bob and I still spend our weekends during the summer lifeguarding at Jones Beach; as is common amongst lifeguards, our families seamlessly blend together and I consider his loss, my loss.

Perhaps it wasn't always the case but as… Continue
