Way too many networks!

Wow! I am part of so many networks that I would only have an hour/day left to work if I kept up with them all! Is this a common problem for online networkers?

I remember a heavy social life when I did most of my networking through groups and events (that time in my life is now a blur)... Though that was total chaos at times, I feel I gained better contacts and had more fun doing it... Or maybe the year I have been doing this hasn't been a fair shot... either way, the old face-to-face costs… Continue

Lifestreaming sites can organize Web lives

Slowly but surely, my online life has spiraled out of control.

Between posting photos on Flickr, updating my status on Facebook, blogging and commenting on and perusing various other sites, I'm having trouble keeping all my activities straight. And keeping track of what my friends are up to on the Web gets even harder.

But there is a way to keep…

Why Use A Recruiter?

At any stage in one's career it is essential to have a mentor.

Research shows that a mentor is critical in successfully understanding job search timelines, interview techniques and salary negotiations when students are launching their first job search,” said Sharon Strange-Lewis, managing director the Office of Career Management at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.

What is the recruiter actually doing?

Youthful indescretions?

It’s funny how the view of managers can be similar to those of parents and to the decisions of the children. In checking a reference on a recent recruit (only 3 years in the business on now looking for job number 3) I was speaking with his first manager. He went on about how talented the candidate was his value to the organization and of course how he completely screwed up by leaving (simply for money).

So there you have the stereotypical idea among managers when their Jr. to Mid… Continue

Mamma Mia

Dear Claudia,

I'm a corporate college recruiter, and find myself spending a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of time coaching candidates so they present well to hiring managers. I'm not talking about technical skills, which are fine; I'm talking about basic things like using good manners, writing communications that aren't filled with text message cryptics or emoticons, or setting expectations that are marginally realistic. It happens daily, and I am really starting to resent that I have…

21st Century Leader; Values based Leadership

In our lifetimes, many of us have had the opportunity to work with leaders who displayed great leadership values every day. These true leaders were interested in our personal growth, showed compassion to every team member and cared for the success of the entire organization. I am sure a few of us have had the unfortunate times of working with managers who we want to stay away from for ever. How do we identify the creme de la creme among the leaders that we want to work for? What do we look for… Continue

Do What You Want to Do

Most of us spend an enormous amount of time at work, sometimes wondering if we work to live or live to work. There should be no confusion on why we live on this planet. Definitely, not to work 80 hr weeks in a job that one does not have a passion for. How does one realize own passion to make a living? A job where you are eager to jump out of the bed most mornings, get to work and kick some butt.

How and when does one realize ones own passion to make a living? When does one make the… Continue
