Layoffs bite

I've talked to several of my contemporaries over the past couple of weeks and the consensus was Q1 was not great for the IT Staffing business. Many of us haven't recovered from the usual drop in headcount at the end of the year and are wondering when things will start to recover. We've seen a couple of clients start to pick up and I am hopeful that Q2 isn't the disaster (maybe too strong a word - struggle?) Q1 was. I will stick with disaster personally because yesterday we were forced to cut 2… Continue

Don't Be Afraid Of Change

I’ve always been a big proponent of self-assessment and of constantly evaluating and reevaluating things to ensure that I’m being and doing my very best in everything I set my mind to.

There is no distinction between my professional and personal life as I truly believe this philosophy should apply to both.

In today’s world, this approach should be absolutely critical if you seek long-term success (not to mention your very professional existence as a Peak Performer in your… Continue

Canada's Top Employers

Yesterday the annual list of Canada's best places to work was published.

It includes companies as large as TD Canada Trust (a national bank with 43,000 employees) and as small as Precision BioLogic a medical manufacturer with a mere 53 employees.

You can view the whole list here.

Recruiting In Public Restrooms

Yesterday, I took the family on our first trip to the beautiful new Washington Nationals ballpark, simply named for now, Nationals Park. More on just how great of a ballpark this is in a moment...

RPO, Retained Search or Contingency?

Ere.net had a great article last week... Let's Revolutionize the Standard Recruiting Model. The author, Mark Bielecki, posed some interesting solutions to recruiting in a down turned economy. One possible solution was to have the client's pay the contingency recruiters a lesser fee for the qualified resumes that are submitted or interviews scheduled rather than a larger fee only when a candidate is hired. This solution would allow the recruiter to be compensated for their knowledge and efforts… Continue

Food For Your Soul

In work and life it’s easy to allow yourself to become overwhelmed, which can lead to burnout if left unchecked.

Obviously, there are many Sole Proprietors out there in this world who are even more susceptible to this very scenario simply by the nature of who they are and what they have to do on a daily basis.

You may be a Sole Proprietor, but are you a Soul Proprietor?

Well, Marty Marsh (”The Soul Proprietor”) of… Continue

Notable Quotable

Here’s a good quote I recently stumbled upon from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.:

“Recession proof your job by making sure that others, above and below, know about your recent achievements.”

Good advice from the best-of-the-best.

You're Right!

No, the customer isn't always right.

But if you get feedback from customers, this post is worth the 60 seconds it will take you to read.
