On the Radar: Monday, November 26th, 2007

MarketingShift notes:

According to Nielsen NetRatings MySpace had more unique users in October than the other social nets, but LinkedIn grew the fastest:

BizReport curiously reports that Facebook had the highest growth rate at 125%, so I guess they don't consider LinkedIn in the same category even though it grew by 189…

Where have all the leaders gone?

I’ve been doing some reading on Generation Y. You know – the kids born

from 1976 to 2003, inclusive. The kids who’ve grown up in the digital

age. The kids who can’t remember a time before cable television,

self-service gas stations, video games, and computers. The kids who

have no idea what a turntable is, since the music they listen to fits

into a 1.5 inch square piece of machinery called a “Shuffle” (mine’s

pink, by the way). Vinyl is what we use to make pleather… Continue

Facebook and Building Relationships

I’ve been on Facebook for a while now. I actually got an account on

Facebook a couple of years ago, using my Texas A&M University

alumnus email address, in order to check up on potential new members

for my sorority (yes, yes, I was a sorority girl... we’ve been through this…).…

10 Minute Mail

On the Radar: Friday, November 16th, 2007

It is what it says it is - an email address that's good for 10 minutes!

Why would you use this? Maybe you want to sign up for a site which requires that you provide an e-mail address to send a validation e-mail to. And maybe you don't want to give up your real e-mail address and end up on a bunch of spam lists.…

Seeking Input On Social Media Equation

This was originally proposed as an equation for social media on our blog post, Revisiting Metrics: Social Media Equation to demonstrate that metrics like links and traffic belong under reach not outcomes. However, it may apply to communication measures as well.

Basic Theory:

Intent vs. Outcome = Return On Investment (I/O = ROI)

Supporting Equations:

Intent x… Continue

Be careful what you say.....and send a confirming email

Misinterpretation in communications is nothing new and lets be frank it will continue in perpetuity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get better at avoiding it.

Recently I had an issue with a client company involving two hiring managers and the HR manager. They had two positions that my candidate might fit (both managers thought from my phone presentation that he may not be completely on target), and so I presented him to both managers, and of course, copied HR on…

On the Radar: Thursday, November 15th, 2007

TugLink.com launches with this to say about why:

TugLink.com is an online peer-to-peer job search community where members help each other land interviews for desired jobs. The name TugLink is meant to imply that company insiders help candidates get “linked” with jobs they desire by giving them a “tug”,…

Why Strategy Is The Key To Social Media

Understanding social media will not come from social media as much as it will from books like Strategy And The Fat Smoker, which I reviewed today. Why is that?

Because link love and traffic spiking tend to be the modern equivalent of super sales, distress advertising, and forced productivity. Or, for recruiters, I suppose it is the difference between filling a job opening and developing… Continue
