Google Maps for Recruiting...

PremTech I've received a few requests asking about how recruiters can use Google to better source candidates or streamline some recruiting efforts. Since I was actually in the process of playing with some Google Maps mashups when the last request came in I thought I'd hit on some neat things recruiters can do with Google Maps. First let me say that I'm by no means implying that Google is… Continue

Got Milk? or Reminders? or Dialogue?

Remember The Milk - iPhone App Friday I was checking the RecruiterGuy.net analytics reports - web traffic, sources, trends, etc. - the usual geeky stuff. The idea behind taking a look at where people are arriving to RecruiterGuy.net from, figuring out exactly what they're clicking on, is fun for me. Think of it as a puzzle - especially since many of… Continue

SocialAddict Seeks Productivity... In the AIR?

SocialAddict A quick post this morning as I work to get back in the groove. The idea behind this week is to find as many ways to maximize my productive time as possible. One of the tools I think I've found to help with this - or at least be an enjoyable distraction... SocialAddict.

SocialAddict is an Adobe… Continue

If They Aren't "Engaged" Then What Are They?

At ERE this year I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to Steve Lavin, ESPN broadcaster and former UCLA head coach. The sports legend and current analyst spoke about a few different aspects of recruiting while tying them in nicely to personal… Continue

SmartRecruiters Ask for Change...

SmartRecruiters As the train pulled in this morning I waved at my fellow and familiar commuters. I shared where I'd been for a week to those that asked as we boarded the same double decker mode of transportation that pulls out of the station at the same time every day. I moved to the back of the car to my normal seat, fired up the laptop, and sipped on my coffee (from my new JuJu travel mug) and thought to myself, "It's good to get back into my morning groove where things are dependable and the… Continue

Britney's Team Kills Twitter

Like OMG for reals, Britney is on the Twitterand you can totally do what she is doing right after she does it... or maybe you can just do what her PR team is saying she's doing... or maybe you can just do what her Social Media team wants you to think she is doing...

You get the idea, right?

After all, Twitter's genuine appeal is as a tool that helps to make its… Continue

Meteorologist Moonlights as a Recruiter... And doesn't know it.

I have two cars - one that I'm passionate about (1981 Fiat Spider Turbo - MINT) and a SUV. The Italian love affair only comes out of the garage on special occasions (under 100k miles on original engine) and the SUV is the daily driver. As a result the SUV needed new tires recently and I wanted some time with my youngest daughter - so on Saturday we made a day of it, dropping off the car and sporting our backpacks down the street to grab some ice cream and hang out at the local book… Continue

College Recruiting... Like Corporate Does?

So I've a friend that is a college recruiter. But not like you'd probably think. Most people hear the term 'College Recruiter' and think of a fast talker looking to get new grads to attend their college because of this sports program or that sports program. Others might imagine a corporate (or professional sports) type that hits the colleges to impress juniors and seniors with great corporate culture or career opportunities.

My friend recruits for people to attend college… Continue

Networking or List Building? (and a little Janet Jackson)

List building... what a concept. Last week I issued a challenge for the month of October. The challenge was to get involved in a social network - to create dialogue and interact - and see what happens. Based on a few emails (and a voicemail!) that I received this week I suspect that what I may have failed to really talk about might have been the difference in growing a… Continue

October's Scary Challenge... Pass it along...

Jigsaw - SAW So I posted yesterday about how some companies are missing the boat for what is more than likely one of two reasons. (If you want the reasons, hit that article here.) But just like we were taught as children, when we point a finger at someone we subsequently point 3 back at ourselves. (try it!)

Today's article is a challenge to anyone lurking or spectating. The challenge is to those that read blogs, watch… Continue

Luving Social Media

SWA Blog Last week a study was released from a Boston based consultant firm (Cone) that stated almost 60% of Americans interact with companies on a social media website with one in four interacting more than once per week. The survey went on to say that 93% of Americans believed a company should have a presence in social media with a strong 85% thought that a company should be interacting with its customers through social… Continue

Sumser's Dallas Recruiting Roadshow...

I finally managed to attend one of Sumser's Recruiting Roadshow - and I'm glad I went. With great speakers presenting there was no shortage on good information to review - although this, in my opinion, wasn't the real win of the event.

The feel of the event was very much UNlike your typical conference. The focus was truly local and had more of a 'town hall' vibe. It would seem that… Continue

Getting Your Campus On...

CampusBlvd Now's the time when most employers are hitting the campuses at full speed and doing some networking the old fashion way - in person. With campus events gearing up everywhere to help keep students make (what we think will be) great career and/or intern decisions it's important to have a good story to tell - and a booth or activity that draws their attention (shameless, I… Continue

Skates, Skirts and Scars... Okay, I'm "Attracted."

Roller Derby Round up your undead posse and kick up your spurs with the ladies of Assassination City Roller Derby as they host the zombie cowboy themed prebout party...

Attracted yet? Hmm... Try this...

"Skates, Skirts, Scars... Yes action fans, you heard it right - roller derby!" or maybe "...tight T-shirts, punk hair and knee socks are combined with a determined stance and padding tough enough to protect a football player."

Like it or lump it,… Continue

What Kind of Networker Are You?

Social Networking So you say you've got a strong network, huh? You say that you've 900 friends on MySpace and that your Facebook cup runneth over? You're boasting that your LinkedIn profile now carries that fancy little +500 icon and that you're networker to be reckoned with? Gosh, that's great for you.

I suppose my next question is... Why?

I'm of the opinion that there are "networkers" and there are "… Continue

One Order of Squirrel Please - and hold the cheap...

RecruiterGuy.net Purple Squirrel It's been an interesting few days for calls from the past. Within the last 9 days I've received a call from a former co-worker looking for a job, a frustrated friend trying to get "that interview," an Army buddy interested in a career change, and a fellow recruiter wanting to talk about unrealistic time lines.

My fellow recruiter was… Continue
