People Don't Quit Jobs -They Quit Managers

Building first class team begins with you. Are you the type manager that you would want to work with and reach for, or are you a type of manager that you would run away from, as fast as you can? It is a very pointed question, and one that takes time and consideration.

After reading Jack Canfields’ “Success Principles”, attending several seminars and workshops on personal power and effectiveness and coaching many leaders and emerging leaders it has become a passion of mine to… Continue

Recruiting In The Silicon Valley

On My visit to the Silicon Valley I got to know some really cool recruiters that volunteer their time on the California Professional Staffing Association. They head up the Silicon Valley chapter and welcomed me to the area with open arms. As we ate, drank fabulous wine and shared many funny stories, I began to make some new friends and feel like I was in my second home (maybe it was the wine?).

Our conversation spun from vacation… Continue

Behavioral Interviewing For Engineers

Previously posted on blog.keenhire.com

In my conversations with recruiters specializing in placing Engineers they are adamant about the point that Engineers get hired for their credentials and not their behaviors. Interestingly enough their corporate counterparts disagree.

Given 50% of all Engineers will retire in the next 10-15 years, there is a mass concern among companies that operate with these people at their helm...They are… Continue

Are you greatful for the CHUM.....or are you worthy of the CENTER CUT

As I coach recruiters each week on their sales strategies, I often hear the same story..............fighting their way to the top of the many pile; and desperately attempting to look, sound or feel different. The reality is once you engage in the commodities game.............ITS OVER.

You do not need me to tell you, or harp on you about the world we live in....you all read the paper, watch the news, or have an 'in tune' friend who keeps you up to date on the happenings.… Continue

GO Put Your Strengths To Work - Marcus Buckingham

I saw Marcus Buckingham speak at a Willow Creek Leadership event last summer. I was surprised and delighted with his message and it was quite simple. Go do what you do really well, and stop doing anything you don't do well.

While most people view his words as inspirational yet hard to practice; I am at a unique point in my life, maybe it is the double digit 44 thing or maybe it is the 20 odd years I have spent in the staffing and recruiting space. I view his words as a call to… Continue

Strategic Positioning for Recruiters

Have you thought about WHY a company would use YOU..................rather than the myriad of alternatives to find and secure their next player?

Is it because you are better?

Do you do it faster?

Are your candidates Better? Who says? ..................................You?

Or do the statistics report that when you make a placement that the company objectives get met?

Is it that you are totally enthralled with finding your client the next key… Continue

Northern California Here I Come

I always thought it would be retirement that brought me to No Cal. And then I sold my business. And then my teenager told me that he wanted to go to school in Cali. And then I just so happened to be visiting for 2 weeks. And then I just happened to be launching a software as a service recruiting and selection tool. Holy Cow, maybe this is supposed to be.

I came home and told everyone; kids (one was with me), son in San Antonio, Mother, Brother, Sisters, Friends...and no one is trying… Continue

The Law of Attraction or Detraction - It's Your Choice

Just know what you’re choosing. When I first learned about the law of attraction, it was from my coach Jeanna Gabellini, and it was before The Secret came out. While I highly enjoyed the movie The Secret, it was only an introduction to the work of the law of attraction; and there is a lot more to it. In my conversations with recruiters, staffing people, men and women about the job and about life; it seems, at times as if people are confused about what the law is and how to make it really work… Continue

To Coach Or Not To Coach

Candidates have many career choices these days, specifically high demand candidates. Overcoming My Fears Of Change And Uncertainty

There I was 40 feet in the air, having just climbed the pirates net to the top of the high ropes course. Sitting on the perch looking at where to go next, it occurred to me that I was scared x&*%less.

I called to “Big Dog,” the group leader, and asked what I do next. His response was to “follow your instinct”. For 23 years in recruiting I followed my instinct and for the most part it led me the right way. Other times that old instinct got me in trouble. “What if my instinct is… Continue

I could say that the world of Talent Assessment hit me by storm.
