Sourcing Chat TODAY

SunMicro is firing and then hiring - an ERE post yesterday reported that SunMicro let all their recruiters and sourcers go and then told them to re-apply (if they still wanted to work there) and that they would be "reconsidered" according to skills. I wonder what the re-hire "terms"will be?

"Sun has announced the need to reduce overall spending in its fiscal year 2009, including a reduction in headcount."

1. Commit to building a "prosperity" mindset

2. Adopt the beliefs of success

3. Be clear on what you want

4. Clear away any opposing beliefs

5. Take inspired action not frantic action

When you are proactive, you don't focus on what the economy or the market is doing, you are coming from an internal state of prosperity consciousness. You don't look to outer conditions to determine your state of mind, you determine your own… Continue

Recruiting (Sourcing?) Ads That Get Attention

"Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success." Not much of a sell job is it? Nevertheless, when this ad was run by the polar explorer, Ernest Shackelton, men started walking across England to get to him. More than 5,000 applied.

Are you a namby-pamby sourcer?

When I first started sourcing a dozen or so years ago I remember the namby-pambiness of my sourcing. Afraid to rock the boat, I shied away from asking too many questions of my information sources, afraid I’d hear something that I didn’t want to hear. If I was on a trail I didn’t want that trail to end in a dead-end or even be broken. In the early days, I heard what I wanted to hear!

Soon I came to realize this wasn’t going to cut the… Continue

Persistence

“I took your course but to tell you the truth, I just don’t have the TIME to do what you do,” the caller explained, almost apologetically, before asking if I had time to take on some more work. She then went on to describe her long background in recruiting, admitting in the tale that it has always been the front-end part of the job, the sourcing, that she has never really been comfortable with. Not only did she find it awkward, she explained, she also… Continue
