The Career of Champions: When Economic Circumstances Teach You How To Reinvent Yourself

This blog post is going to be exceptionally personal. You have been warned. A few months ago, I stood looking down on the San Francisco Bay, at Sunset looking west from the Oakland Hills-when I snapped this picture. It was at that time I told myself, I had what it takes to make a difference in my profession, I could put people back to work, and really help propel myself forward to a career track of greatness. I thought of the beautiful…

Well, I just got back from a great event, where some new friends helped put on a great social media and networking opportunity for our professional associations, jointly sponsored by the BYU Management Society-Silicon Valley Chapter (of which I am a Board Member), and the (SJSU Alumni… Continue

Happy Holidays, and 2009-What about the Economy? Social Networking? Recruiting to a new level? 'Tis the Season to Be Grateful

I will remember 2009. I will remember how Twitter made a new platform Recruiters now use as a means to find talent, I will remember how Linkedin Revitalized and changed and transformed itself. I will remember this as the year that saw my career go in a new direction, I will remember it as a time where I found and retransformed myself yet again, and yet, to think of how much has occurred in such a short space and time, our careers are but… Continue

The Greatest Success of All-And Why Recruiting Matters

The view from the air of Santa Cruz in a helicopter is quite stunning. It enlightens the mind to think that when you have a challenge, there is nothing a little view of the horizon can't do to hit you back in your stride again.

That was a year ago. My wife and I won a helicopter trip, found a new perspective as we looked down on the earth below.

I look back on this past year of 2009, it has been it's own soul searching… Continue

Home Again: "Life's A Climb-But the View Sure is Great!"

"Life's A Climb-But the View Sure is Great!"-Mylee Cyrus-Hannah Montana The Movie

It was a year and a half ago, where I wrote my first blog on RecruitingBlogs.com when the forum was just getting started. It was 6 months ago, where the economy stole me away from my true career aspirations in staffing, where my heart and soul have been forged and honed. Here I stand in the midst of the… Continue

Silicon Valley-Center of Innovation/Center of our Economic Recovery Hope

A few days ago I visited Belgatos Park in Los Gatos. Los Gatos literally means the cats. It is in this park where Mountain Lions, Deer, Bobcats, Boar, Hawks, Coyotes and a whole host of wildlife call home near the perennial Silicon Valley. It is interesting to return to nature, and view from a distance the downtown of the valley that has been at the forefront of so much change.

Wikipedia has this to say:… Continue

The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

The sun'll come out Tomorrow

Bet your bottom dollar

That tomorrow

There'll be sun!

Just thinkin' about

Clears away the cobwebs,

And the sorrow

'Til there's none!

When I'm stuck in a day

That's gray,

And lonely,

I just stick out my chin

And Grin,

And Say,

The sun'll come out

So ya gotta hang on

'Til tomorrow

Come what… Continue

The Survivors Club

Recently, I started reading the Book the Survivor's Club. Here in the midst of economic challenge we need to become survivors.

I found myself needing to find hope in the midst of a time where my employer had to cut my hours and pay in half.

The challenge now is real. I am using my tricks learned as a sourcer-knowledge of how to find a hiring manager or candidate to find those who can help me network to find new… Continue

A Return To What Matters Most

A Return To What Matters Most.....

Yes. There is a lot to be thankful for these days. I still have a job and can try to help others get a new job or better job. This is the power that I still have being employed in an industry I love-Recruiting & HR Consulting.

Looking back on the past year I felt myself want to fly forward as this new year came upon me. In March I have to look at the challenges ahead and realize it is… Continue

Where Does One Go From Here? The Economic Question.

In the past 2 weeks, new lessons emerged which show me that I am the sum of my effort, and the outcome of my own inward passion.

In the short space of 2 weeks I have learned a great deal from others, as many good folks reach out to make this young upstart a better man.

Service to others, my family, coworkers, friends, associates, and others is so vital.

How can I lift up others if I find myself worried about circumstances I cannot control? The lesson of these 2… Continue

Living Life with Conviction of The Heart

Where are the dreams that we once had?

This is the time to bring them back.

What were the promises caught

On the tips of our tongues?

Do we forget or forgive?

There's a whole other life waiting to be lived when...

One day we're brave enough

To talk with conviction of the heart.

And down your streets I've walked alone,

As if my feet were not my own

Such is the path I chose,

Doors I have opened and closed

I'm so tired of living this… Continue

Facing The Challenges of Our Economic Times: The Power Of Persistence, Tenacity, and Grit

We live in times of deep turmoil where the world is topsy turvy, and each new day brings with it a realization that to be good, is not good enough, simply just doing your best may require more from you in order to make your best a true indicator of your complete prowess.

I have found that the old vantage points can still provide a definitive outcome of sheer power, but to get to the pinnacle of success in this environment requires more persistance, tenacity and grit than at any other… Continue

The Power of PMA: Positive Mental Attitude

Positive Mental Attitude or as I like to call it....PMA, is the most powerful tool in an arsenal of maximized success. In putting forth an enthusiastic approach to daily tasks no matter how mundane, no matter how frustrating, one can overcome virtually any obstacle if hope is applied to a winning attitude.

I am always amazed at the power of PMA. It can propel you forward when the sky is falling or the DOW is dropping. It can enable you to uplift all those around you when you are in… Continue

A Season For Courage-Welcome to 2009! Go for The Goal.

I return home reinvigorated once again by my Dale Carnegie Course, where I work as a Volunteer Coach. This is such a wonderfully motivating environment that the positive energy feast only serves to help me be at my best as I go to work this month.

The sales are full and to their proper extension, life is taking a newer direction, never before has it been this interesting or invigorating.

All Hale 2009.

It began with all the pomp and circumstance to light a fire… Continue

A December To Remember & A New Year Full Of Promise

Recently, I gave my family as a Christmas gift a copy of my childhood journal kept from the time I was a wee lad.

I reread, and reread and as I prepared this gift it occurred to me that I have seen so many blessings this past year.

2008 will be the year I remember where I turned a corner professionally. I had all the mortar and bricks to build something great, but 2008 was where crucial life decisions, professional turning points, and a foray into and a return to staffing… Continue

Principles Learned In A Dale Carnegie Course

Tonight I rejoined the Dale Carnegie course this time as a coach rather than as a student. It is quite amazing how life opens interesting doors that propel us forward. Networking is so powerful, as I undertake this latest opportunity, it would appear that the New Year is vital, strong, full of promise, indeed challenges do lie ahead in this economy but nothing can stop desire, real luck and patient resolve.

In 5 years as a HR professional, I see myself having grown in leaps and… Continue

My Favorite Time Of Year-Time To Raise the Bar

It's been 1 year since I made a vow to myself to make the most of 2008.

A year later I look back on that time and realize a year changes so much. Never does one really think about what they have until they look in the mirror and reflect on who they have become. This is me.

It never ceases to amaze me how much we should love each and every day for the miracles we have. It is as though life always points us where we need to go, when we need it most. At least it seems that… Continue

'Tis The Season To Be Thankful

So much to be thankful for. That's the subject of this week's post. I thought a lot about what I wanted to write this week, with so much going on.

It appears at times that life gives you a forward thinking direction when you need it most. Why the challenges that we face sometimes, why the distinct path that makes you reach down deep to find yourself? Well, 'tis the season.

There is really a great deal to be thankful for, at times one must wonder what brings maximum… Continue

Becoming a Master Sourcer(er)

It is an interesting role, being a sourcer and supporting multiple recruiters. These folks are good at what they do, so when you have a recruiter stuck in a race to get that talent to the hiring manager, there may be a good sourcer behind that magic. So, how to become one of the best sourcer(ers), a worker of magic?

1. Learn the job backwards and forwards. I study my JD as best I can. I want to know the role, live it, breathe it. I see the essentialness of this every day.

2.… Continue
